End locks screen not ends process, make side key assignable to lock phoneSupport

Last Updated:

  1. Is there any way to make the "end" button on the Samsung Moment not lock the screen and instead end whatever process that is currently being run/used/viewed, and possible have an assignable soft-touch or side key to lock the phone, or even a menu option or application. If anyone knows any useful information it would be appreciated.

This wouldn't work. In essence this would be like pressing ctrl+alt+delete and expecting the OS to magically know which process it is you want to kill (which is exactly why it among other things shows you the task manager from which you then have to specify a process to kill). As far as a lock key there is already a hard key mapped for that purpose, the end key.

Go in2 the Market and Download Spare Parts if you don't have it. In about half way down you can you can edit "End Button Behavior" it says 1.5 only but I am running Amstel v2.1 with Meat Kernel v2.0.7. So it will edit what the end button does but I haven't found anything that lets me use the camera button to lock the screen.

What U can Make the End Button do:
    Go to Home
    Go To Sleep
    Home Then Sleep

I was messin with a program that let me use the end button to end process but i forget which app it was. If I remember I will post back but this is a start.

Hope this helps some solves part of your wishes OP

Like i said, this is fantasy....isn't possible....as in NEVER going to happen, forget about it. Home, sleep, or home then sleep are all finite provabilities.....far from the precept of "let me hit end at the process i'm thinking of will die." .....This equation is imaginary, anyone who has any experience in calculus will concur......(and anyone who isn't already privy, programming is fundamentally based in mathematics). Home, or sleep, or both can be easily defined as A or B or A+B.....the multitude of processes running at any given time cannot . End of story, bonne nuit, buonanotte, good night.
  5. I just want it to end the app that's on the screen when i push it and return to home screen...not any random app that I'm thinking of.

This is something that would have to be programmed by the dev for each app, not a global key mapping. Most apps i've seen dont have a true 'exit' function at all. If you are concerned with killing process you best bet is to get one that has an end all widget you can place on the home screen. Any good ones will have an exclude list that you can add system tasks (these will restart anyways but not need making the phone do more work than necessary) and any apps you dont want it to kill. System pannel lite is the best (free) one i've come across.

The OS can't know which application is running in the foreground?
