First of all, I'm hoping this isn't a duplicate thread. I honestly looked through the first 40-odd pages of threads in hope of not duplicating an existing topic but I gave up.

Here's what's up. Got my Eris around the first of April. It worked great, even after the firmware update in May. First week of June I dropped it. It had its silicone case on so the outside glass didn't break but the LCD display inside did. Found an OEM parts supplier, bought a new LCD and installed it with relative ease. What I've got going on now is that the stupid thing won't charge. Took it to Verizon and the chick there tried to charge it with one of their chargers and it still wouldn't work. She had to send me a new battery since they didn't have them in stock there and it came today. I popped it in and it's got a tad more than half life left but it also will not charge.

    Any suggestions?

Did the LCD you installed void the warranty? I'm guessing you must have had to undo a screw with the VOID sticker over it.

Otherwise, this is an easy warranty swap.

Yes, the LCD I installed voided the warranty. Don't suppose there's any way around that now...? Seems like everything's for sale on eBay so it would seem that somebody out there would be selling those little VOID stickers. yukyukyuk

Well in the first place why didnt you just take the phone in for a warranty replacement for the broken lcd?

And anyways do you think whilst installing the lcd you couldve perhaps unplugged some cables or otherwise damaged the connection between the usb plug and the battery? It cant hurt to open her back up and look.

To answer your first question, the night it got broken I called Verizon and was informed that this wasn't a warranty issue and that I was responsible for buying a new phone for $469 OR buying a "certified pre-owned" (does that bring a used car salesman to mind for just me or what?) for $169. I was told that there was no way I would get a replacement for anything less than that. As far as the second question, I've checked more than a couple times to make sure all my connections are good. There were only like 5 to unplug in the first place. UNLESS...what is this connection between the USB plug and battery you speak of? I don't remember anything like that.

Have you attempted to charge the device using both methods? USB as well as household wall socket?

Yes, I did. Neither way worked. I also tried using the car charger to no avail. However, my story has a happy ending. I just got back from a different Verizon store here in town and the rep replaced my phone AT NO CHARGE. Maybe he didn't look hard enough for the VOID sticker on the screws, maybe it's because the Eris is on its way out, maybe he was just a super nice guy. Either way, I'm back on my Eris and ready to boogie. Thanks to all who replied with good intentions.

    Cheeri-o!
