I know this has probably been posted numerous times but i'll post it again anyways.

I was playing around with some settings and found the animations setting about 2 nights ago shortly after i rooted my phone. I set it to only show some animations and it seemed alittle quicker. I then turned all animations off and wow that makes things seem alot faster.

I think loading the animations is one of the reasons the phone feels slower than it is at times.

Either way animations off = much faster feel and responsiveness.

I do check these forums very regularly and have never seen this posted.... I was like I cant imagine that turnign off the animations would really have any impact on the performance... I have gone from 1.5 to 2.1a then to 2.1b and its much buch better cant imagine that the phone has that much more to give...

WOW... I was wrong... I turned of animations and tried GMAIL, Email, Calendar, Texting and it was lighting fast... This has been the BEST advice and/or modification I have made...

I will monitor and see how it goes...

    Thanks for the advice!

I can confirm that this does help. Thanks for the tip. I well test for awhile to make sure it is not a placebo effect.

Yeah i was suprised at it too. I mean it never really dawned on me in the past that the animation was what made it feel so slow. But i'm guessing a secondary benefit is that it probably uses less memory when loading apps at the same time.

I've been using it this was for about 2 days and haven't seen any slow down so far, but then again 2 days isn't much to hang your hat on either.

Where is this setting and does one need to root or use the leaked 2.1 to do it?

You can access the animations setting at Menu>Settings>Sound & Display>Animation. Uncheck the box and BOOM! faster Eris. this works with 1.5 as well. That is what I am running. Try it.

No root needed. Just follow what the post above this one says.

Awesome. If you really need the animations for whatever reason, you can set them to 'fast' using the spare parts app. This is way faster though.

I've not run into a situation where they were needed. I think that setting is just for the GUI and has nothing to do with the apps themselves. But i could be wrong. Either way i've found no ill effects so far, if someone does run into a problem make a post about it.

Agreed. I believe they are just for aesthetics. I can live without them for a faster machine.

For sure, the snappy-ness is definately welcomed. I do this sort of thing on my windows pcs as well. For a pc running windows xp you can change the start button delay using power tools from ms, makes things feel quicker.

What animations are being turned off, exactly?

The animations of screen transitions when you change from one screen to the next.

I say just try it and if you don't like it just change it back. Will take you all of 5 minutes to determine if its right for you.

Hehe, turns out I already had it off. No wonder I wasn't experiencing any of the lag you people talk about.

I meant like you personally feel the need to have the animations...not like it would cause a problem (or why would you be able to set it in the first place:D)

I'm sorta suprised nobody ever noticed this. I mean it would work on any android device not just the droid eris.

Did this as well, saw an immediate difference. Running 2.1b (which everyone should be)

What animations did I just turn off? I don't notice anything. The weather widget still does the cool thing where the weather comes up across my whole home screen.

Great find! It really does speed things up dramatically. I just restarted my phone because my apps were still pretty slow to open but just jumping through the Sense menus is greatly faster.
