I just ordered a DINC2 (arriving today) and was wondering if there are any apps that you thing are essential. Are there any apps that you just can't live without? Juice defender? Any apps for texting? Just curious.

For me, Easy Reminder. This app lets you control your SMS and miss call alerts. Since this phone only alerts me once on a missed text. Often times, I didn't notice the alert. Easy Reminder can set alerts to multiple times or indefinitely until you read your text or missed call. Pretty neat.

Now that people are making malware and viruses for Android, I think Lookout is a must-have.

Also, since the phone has a front-facing camera, I use Tango. This app scans your contacts and lists all of the ones that have Tango/have FFC's and lets you chat with them. Doesn't let you chat with laptops though. If you don't like that, there are a bunch of 3rd party video chat apps that will hold you over until Gingerbread comes to our phone.

I love threads like these, as I always find new apps that I've never heard of or known about before.

Most of my essentials are built in (email, messaging, etc), but here's the few that I use extensively:

    Google Reader (free)
    Amazon Kindle (free)
    Dropbox (free)
    Elixir (free)
    GasBuddy (free)
JuiceDefender/JuicePlotter (if I'm in a battery life saving mood, I generally keep JD disabled; free)
    Root Explorer (paid, I think)
    Titanium Backup (free/paid)
Titanium Media Sync (paid, I think)
Google Voice (not extensively used, but very very handy at times; free)

I like the "GO" series; Go Contacts, Go Weather and Go SMS. They're all free and I think do a better job than the default apps. I also really like the Swype keyboard (free beta) and Screebl for controlling the screen.

BUMP. I had to dig deep for an App Thread.

So check this out - an app that uses facial recognition to either lock your phone or just some apps. I use it to lock any apps that you spend money with (amazon, mint), my email, and my social networks.

It is really slick, works FAST, and is a nice extra layer of security.

This is what I use for the same propose.

It is really quite clever and a bit sneaky. Throws fake error messages with secret dismissal techniques. A more covert tactical approach to app locking. Give the free trail a try, you will probably like it. Brilliant!!!

Skype with Video Call Download from here. Hacked app, no root required.

I uninstalled the current version and re-installed this apk file. I cleared the data on the pre-installed skype (white logo).

Worked great on wifi, will test 3g later. Really stoked. Download today and make an iphone owner really jealous.
