Here's a video that I DID NOT CREATE that seems to show the display for the EVO is actually better than the specs state.

Watch it it 720p if you can for better results...

Is it just me or is this guy really twitchy/shaky? Maybe he's an older dude, don't have the sound on right now lol.

Edit: And I think I read somewhere that, it only looks smooth when you open gallery, because it's only a preview, and when you actually zoom in, then zoom out its not previewing, its fully showing the image. I can't really explain what I'm trying to say lol.

No, you didn't - mikeyandroid did, for a discussion in this thread:

    http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g/109685-why-did-htc-put-16bit-65k-color-lcd-device-droid-x-has-18bit-24-million-both-phones-199-a-4.html

I think it proves the display is much better than you think.

Visit the thread, pages 3 and 4, for Mike's sample files - see for yourself.

He put a LOT of work into this on everyone's behalf.

As for ThatNewAndroidGuy - gosh, you're a class act. Thanks for your contribution to this issue.

He said he didn't make the video. LOL

It's good to find out that quite possibly the Evo doesn't have a 16bit display. I was starting to feel really sorry for my friend that got one.

And I agreed with him. LOL more.

    Yep.

    You would.

I wouldn't had commented if somebody had not pointed it out already, then EarlyMon goes and start bashing on him instead.

I don't care about any of his posts since I'm not seeking any information that he has.

Words can be taken in more than one way.

If I gave the OP any offense, I apologize to him alone, as it was he I was addressing. Despite the interpretation, I was very much agreeing. I could have as easily writen, "No, I didn't either, mikeyandroid did. :D" or even pasted a few winkies after what I said. I consciously chose to not say that. Instead, the context for what I wrote was a lead-in to point to Mike's contributions elsewhere in this forum. That is said to not excuse, but rather to explain in hopes that my apology for any offense given is quite sincere.

I fully regret this thread having any focus on me personally rather than the hard work Mike put in, but that's really not my doing.

Any opinions that anyone has of me for any of this is their own business and affair. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, and I'm not going to kick.

The last time someone started a thread for something that was already under discussion, I advised that God kills a kitten every time that's done. Perhaps he's killed two already over this one.

Report me to the SPCA if it makes you feel any better.

BTW - The bashing I did in that post was on ThatNewAndroidGuy. And later, on kibble for feeling sorry for his friend.

PS to broken1i - your defense of me was very nice, but you may find me undeserving after this reply - I didn't misread the OP, Crowdley. I quite simply wasn't being snide. Words can have more than the single tone of voice ascribed to them by others.

    very interesting.
I guess when the Droid X comes out these test can be performed side by side.

    Good find OP.

I had no doubt someone would point that out. I more expected that comment on YouTube rather than here though since YouTube is the place where you see all the pointless comments. :)

Answer: Yes. I'm old (43) BUT the reason for the unsteadiness was muscle fatigue. I had just come in from outside where I was manipulating a fully extended 14 foot pole trimmer for about 2 hours. My hands/arms are still sore.

I know... now someone will make a comment about how I shouldn't make videos right after manipulating my pole. So :p... I beat you to it! Oh no... now I went and said "beat" in the same paragraph. I CAN'T WIN! :D

Thank you Mike, for making that informative video, and sharing your knowledge of such things with us. And, in the future, be careful of what age you refer to as old!;)

Comment posted on my video says that XDA has found documentation showing that the Novatec panel is 24 bit. I wonder if someone with an Epson panel could run my test to see if they get the same observations. If the Epson panel is also 24 bit, it would confirm that all Evo's have 24 bit hardware.

I don't buy it. First, when I open a picture in my album, it opens slightly blurry. When you zoom in even slightly the picture sharpens up. Seems to be a software issue. Second, why the hell would they undersell the screen?

Isn't it fun to take criticism from someone who watched a educational video without sound???

As you saw above, the crappy gallery we deal with is HTC's garbage they're shoveling down our throats.
