I have successfully edited a spreadsheet in google docs. I thought it can't be done, but I was quite surprised that I was able to edit my xls files online with my Evo.

I'm not sure if this was general knowledge. But I was quite happy to discover I can edit google docs via browser. :D

PS: It calculates funny, but all you have to do, is refresh and the numbers should be good. :)

I have the full version of google docs, and I was dismayed that it doesn't let you go to other sheets of your worksheet. I have multiple sheets per xls file, and I can't open everything except the top sheet.

It's a good thing google docs saved the day for me. :)

Again the spreadsheets is kinda weird to edit, but it works for me. At least I can go with multiple sheets with one file. :)

can you edit google docs via the browser? what about downloading docs onto the phone, editing them, saving them to the SD card, and then uploading them later?

(no experience with an Evo... YET)

I have the full version of Documents To Go and the phone came with the "read-only" version of QuickOffice. If you have complex spreadsheets like I have, which have multiple worksheet in one xls file like I do, in Documents to Go as whell as QuickOffice, you will only be able to view the top most spreadsheet. Which is a big bummer for me.

Good thing though, Google docs is free and you can edit your xls files as well as go through multiple worksheet files. :)

Oh, I was referring to documents, not spreadsheets. Do you know if you can edit documents from google Docs via the browser?

Just tested the .doc files, I don't think it would let you edit word documents. That's a bummer.

You can technically edit text documents by selecting the Desktop version. Problem is that the keyboard doesn't automatically show up and if you do manually bring up the keyboard, it displays directly over the text which makes it hard to see what you're typing though I could see the text show up on my computer which had the same document open. So it's definitely not optimized for mobile devices though it probably would work fine if the HTC Evo had a physical keyboard.

I'm running the Ava-FroyoV1 ROM, btw.

Update: I initially was trying it out in landscape (wide) view which would be why the keyboard was over all of the text. In portrait (long) view it's manageable though my keyboard doesn't have directional keys for going up and down through the document. I'm pretty sure the stock rom's keyboard did have directional keys though.
