This is perhaps a quick look at what Otterbox has given us for our Evos. Ill include my thoughts and compare this offering to the commuter case from the HTC Hero as far as build quality is concerned. First impressions out of the box, the silicone portion of the case is a bit thin compared to the Hero version. The Hard plastic backing is a bit thinner as well, but feels a bit firmer than the more flexible hero version. The case by itself is very light weight and the thinness of both pieces do well to keep the added bulk on the phone to a minimum. Along the side of the case are thin grooves of no silicone so the hard plastic shell has a place to grab onto. It doesnt look like they touch the phone much if at all, so not much fear of the plastic rubbing against the phone. putting the case on the phone is pretty simple, but a little bit more of a pain than it should be. Lining up the grooves , the volume rocker nub, and the bottom port cover can be annoying, but it should be easier in time. The same can be said for taking off the case, its not an simple pull off hard cover. ( ill explain more later ) When on the phone, the case is sleek and it certainly feels solid. it covers the phone very well and adds little bulk. I have larger hands so the phone size isnt an issue for me and the case doesnt add much bulk in a pocket either. The power and volume buttons work well and dont require much more force than without the case. My main concerns come with the thickness of the silicone layer. It feels a little thin and it can be a little bit easier to move around. unless you try, the corners or top of the silicone portion when on the phone wont move much, but there is some give. The biggest concern though, is the bottom port cover. Redesigned from the Hero, it no longer has nubs that fit directly into the ports, but have a small ledge that fits into the hard case. This redesign is more than welcome. I feel it will stay in place most, if not, all the time. The problem i have is the silicone portion just below the cover looks a little flimsy and i fear that constant removal of the hard cover portion may eventually damage this area, but even with a 1 year warranty from the sprint store, i dont think it would ever be an issue. Sorry for being long winded, but i am a stickler for my technology and i know i would want this kind of detail from someone else doing a review. Overall, im very happy with my purchase. I was fortunate to get a pretty good discount from the sprint employee at the store and it was an instant buy for me. Despite my small concerns, I like the feel , the lack of bulk the case adds, and how solid it is on the phone. Im confident this can withstand accidental drops. It does come with a screen protector which is more than suitable, but I felt the most important part to review would be the case itself. Pictures to follow.
