I am having one hell of a time with the IDIOTS at Sprint and the EVO I returned to them. My original EVO bought on launch day eventually had light leakage and dust under screen. I called Sprint and they said they would send me an EVO (refurb'd). I asked for a new unit but they sent me a refurb. Well the refurb gets here and guess what light leakage and screen separation. I call Sprint (4x) and they eventaully paid Asurion the $100 deductible and Asurion sent me a Brand New EVO. I was told by Sprint to send my original EVO to Asurion and take the refurb'd unit to a Sprint Corp. store and turn it over to them. Well I get to the Sprint Corp. store and they won't take the phone and said they don't care what Advanced Exchange says. I get back home and call Sprint and the e-mail me a UPS tracking label (8-18-2010). I send the phone omn 8-19-10 and the phone was received at Sprint docks in Louisville, KY on 8-26-10. Sprint has since been harassing me about the refurb'd unit. I have given the UPS tracking# 3X to Sprint and they seem to not care. Well this month my bill was charged the EVO that I sent to them and while talking with them AGAIN they say they have not received the phone. I went to the UPS webpage and tracked the phone myself and they still say they have not received it. The are about as incompetent as they come. It's like dealing with ******s. I have had to file a complaint with the BBB and California State Attorney Generals office. I received a call from a Sprint Executive team member saying they will track the phone and the issue, obviously they have not. This has become a nightmare:mad:

I had a Palm Pre that I had to have warrantied. Sprint/Asurion sent me a replacement Pre and it was dead out of the box so I had to have another Pre sent me. Luckly everything worked out but I was really worried what happened to you would happen to me.

I'm really sorry that you're having such a bad experience with Sprint. I have had to return several different phones - NOT all Evo's and have never had one bit of trouble. The only thing close to a problem was recently when I had a replacement Evo sent they went ahead and charged my account for the replacement until they received the original back - however, I was issued a credit within 36 hours of their receipt of the phone. I think your case is the exception not the rule....

My question is that dust falls, how does it fall under the screen through a tiny supposed crack on the edge of the phone?
    I am just asking.
I see the light at the bottom of my EVO, but its the really bright LED's shining thru the bottom. No screen separation and no magic dust.
    I'm just saying.

    Simple.

    Send tracking info to dan@sprint.com.
Stop paying all bills until issue is resolved.
Pay outstanding service bill within 24 hours of resolution.

Dust getting into the screen is a common problem with HTC handsets, whether it's magic dust, pixy dust, or plain ol dust, it's all the same and is very annoying to see on a phone screen!

I have exchanged my EVO 3 times which isn't saying the best about the phone but each time went through smoothly. They send me a new one and charge my account, i send them back the defective one and they credit my account when they have confirmed they have received it. It's actually one of the smoothest online returns I've ever experienced.

Sorry you had to go through hell with your exchange.

Oh, I didn't know about this well known issue. Considering this is my first Android device. I have had the touch, the mogul, the diamond, the touch pro, the touch pro 2, and now my EVO. This us absolutely the first device that I have heard of having this well known issue. My bad. I haven't read in these forums the keywords to say to get a new phone. Or the tricks, Just to name a few, pull out usb while in middle of ruu to get phone stuck in bootloader. Or microwave phone for 2 seconds. Or complain about how hot they get.
For a place where warez are bad, cheating carriers and manufacturers is ok befuddles me.
I enjoy this site and others like it to help me with my phone and learn. But when I ask why I should root and im told that the only real reason to root my phone is to steal service.
But I'm new to Android, so what do I know.
I'm just a truck driver that enjoys the latest and greatest. If the next HTC is better than the evo, then I'll have it.

I can see that you live in Florida, so I understand that you don't really live in a dusty climate, but here in Tucson Az (dry desert climate), dust falls, and swirls, and gets stirred up by a simple breeze thru my kitchen windows. Trust me, dust does more than fall. Here we have dust storms that cause multiple car accidents, and dust devils, which resemble small toronados, and if you catch the sunlight coming through your east window panes in the morning, you will see that dust rises, and dips, and floats in the air for quite some time before it falls. No magic to it.
We live with dust, no matter how dusted our homes seem to be.

And we have dust here as well as in the midwest and alaska and everyplace else on the earth.
You mean to tell me that every person thats returning a phone to sprint because of "Light Leakage due to screen seperation and thus caused dust to appear under their screen as proof" live in Arizona? And that there is a constant dust storm in which you are using an expensive piece of equipment in as to get dust that swirled to slide into the phone under the screen?
I lived outside Tuscon halfway between Tuscon and Ajo Junction on Ajo way for a spell. Also lived in Yuma, and Glendale (Suberb of Phoenix). Dad was a Greyhound Trainer. I know how Arizona is. I don't remember those constant storms and I lived in the desert, (Near Ryan Field).
Thats the way of this country, While I am complaining about people on welfare, I am scheming to steal from a corporation so I dont have to pay an extra 30 dollars for a service that I know is well worth it because I am willing to void the warrantee on a 600 dollar phone to do it, except it's not voided if I say that there is "Light Leakage due to screen seperation and thus caused dust to appear under their screen as proof".
We can argue all night, but I am willing to bet that 99 percent of the people with that complaint are being less that truthful.
Just say what you are doing and remember, when the unlimited wireless web goes away because people were getting over on the man while illegally downloading torrents thru their rooted tethers, don't blame me.
But I am a stupid trucker, What do I know?

Oh and the person whose post I responded to is in NYC, Which I assume is the dust bowl capital of the world. What was I thinking?

I still don't get why HTC continues with the same screen processing even though they've had dust under screen issues for years. It's pretty obvious that if there's a gap between the screen and the actual display, there's always a chance for something to get in. They need to update process to what other phone companies are doing or follow the iPhone route. In Apple's process, the display is laminated to the glass, so even if dust does get underneath the glass, it gets underneath the display as well, so you never see it. Even this is better than nothing.

Wow! I guess you set me straight.
I did not mean to upset you or put down your intelligence in any way.
I am sorry if you took my post that way. I was simply speaking on a topic I know well. The behavior of dust. I never meant to imply that all the screens with dust problems come from AZ, or that Arizona residents live in a constant dust storm. It was simply my attempt to explain how easy it might be to get dust under a phone screen that is not flush to the bezel. I never even considered the validity of the complaints of the Evo owners with this problem since I have no reason to question them.
Anyway, please accept my apologies for my obviously unwelcome post.:(

I find it bizarre that the majority of people who return their EVOs for these "issues" end up returning 3 or 4 different sets, yet the 6 people I know with EVOs all have NONE of these issues.

I guess Minnesota must not have dust, and the gravity here must make the screens separate less.

Well, I was informed by Sprint that they FIANLLY found the EVO I sent back last month (after giving them the UPS tracking # on 4 different occasions). They will remove the $400 non returned charge (how nice of them). Jerks. If they would have listened to me this issue would not have gotten this far

Heh, they're probably used to people trying to scam them all the time.

What scam was I supposedly running? I sent the damn phone back and gave them the UPS Tracking # on 4 different occassions to 4 different Sprint individuals and NONE of them bothered to check the tracking # and who had signed for it.
