So it is day 6 of my EVO trial and i had been thrilled with it until now. I have firmware 003, no light leaks, and a completely sealed screen with the dark black body. Felt blessed to have it. Now i suddenly start feeling tingling today every once in a while while i'm working on the keyboard. I received a call in the middle of working on an application, and that's when i noticed more intense shocks that eventually really hurt. No i am upset and do not want a Buggy replacement phone... , if there is a fix for this i want to do that and not risk a terrible trade experience which i just had with the palm pre. Any advice or has anyone else heard of or experienced this problem? I am devastated about it.

    A lawyer? Are you kidding?

Just take it back to a Sprint store and they will get you a replacement.

Listen, I don't want to under or over sell this.... while there is a very real threat of MAJOR shock which souls be tragic ... what is happening now is just perceptible & on up to the point of a rubber band snap ... a stinging snap fwiw.

This does have a capacitive keyboard/ screen ... and there's even an app that purposely uses this ability to shock or zap u when u touch it, so it's not like my EVO is the lone evil Autobot Transformer edition.

Any help from ppl who read tons of other tests & trials sites for EVO?

I did disable the multi-touch Droid x keyboard just in case it was connected .... I got the hosted file tiny url from this site (see my other posts) & it wasn't doing it prior.

Google search says you are the first person to ever report this happening to them...with ANY cellphone. Congratulations!

Normally that'd be exactly the right move but after going thru 7+ Pre's, nightmare with Assurion &
Sprint retention just to get ANY phone (was "made whole" by being shipped a new EVO as a 'so sorry from Sprint') ... I am not ready to go thru that ordeal again & then u add to it that it seems like 75-90% of EVO recipients have had multiple issues even past the 30 days ... so many problems!

OK so far after disabling cool multi-touch keyboard I downloaded .. it hasn't happened, even on a call.

Anyone else have issues with that app ? Or an explanation .

Does this happen all the time? Funny as it sounds try changing shoes or no shoes and see if you can repeat the shock? Maybe its just your environment?

That's funny but it's wrong ..... a man famously died from being electrocuted by his mobile. Pics of nasty fire , aftermath on web (no cadavers thankfully). I found on Google it was common in some phones during 2008/9 especially.

But I want to know about the EVO ...& most probably the multi -touch keyboard apk file I downloaded.

Didn't happen. If it's famous, post the link. Should pop right up on google, no?

The app you mentioned is a gag, BTW. It doesn't actually shock you, because it can't.

This is from snopes...closest thing I could find to what you claim. Battery explosion is claimed as a possibility:

    snopes.com: Cell Phone Recharging Electrocution

Or maybe you are talking about this urban legend:

    Electrocuted by Cell Phone?

I'm embarrassed to ask what are shoes ...

I can force it to happen by using EVO while wired charging .... any skin that comes to close to use plug port & it'zzzzzzzzzmmmmmp thru the hand . My use wired charger cnxn is not very snug imho ... not loose just not as tight as I'd prefer & if you're typing & ur hand gets in the way ... it'll move just a fraction of an amt & bzzzzzzz ouch.

Well, then quit talking on the phone while it's charging and you're taking a shower.

I thought earlier you were saying it was the screen that was shocking you...offering up that 'shock' app as supporting evidence. Now it's the plug port? I have my phone plugged in right now and I don't see any way to make skin contact with even the metal shielding, much less the electrical contacts.

Man..some of you all have a nasty tone ... no reason for it & def no reason to be snide. Very first reply was snarky & only a couple have been sincere ... good grief ... are only 10 yr olds online right now?

I had installed dolphin hd & have only searched using it .. no Google so maybe that's the diff btw us. I'm in medicine & do tons of research.... Ive had to read up on the neurone damage from cells shocking (lower level like mine is doing & some greater) users thru the speaker, earpiece, etc. Never expected to experience anything like that ever ... esp with my much-loved new EVO.

I appreciate the kind help & leaving the snark behind. I don't have time to indulge in that.

Is that the standard charger that came with the phone? I think you should swap it unless you want to keep getting swapped. Just do a full back up with some 3rd party software, wipe it and swap it. Getting shocked like that isnt a good thing and could be a bad usb charge port or charger.

Gross overstatement. People mostly post negative threads. Nobody comes on the boards to start "My phone is perfect in every way" threads.

If the phone is truly shocking you, return it for a new one. There is absolutely no way around fixing something like that through software or an app.

One more significant thing .... I would like to know if everyone else feels this or if it's further evidence my phone is bad .... but when I place my fingers or palm behind / across the back of my EVO it feels "alive".

I can feel the vibration of the processor both tactile & with electricity .... it makes my hand tingle with a mold shock. The hurtful shocks come with random touching or gripping of phone edges & in particular the charging port (where the plug shows silver about 2mm wide btw port hole and the silver metal pin that plugs in.

Is yours totally flush with zero silver visible? B/c mine den is not like that.

"Man..some of you all have a nasty tone"

Not a nasty tone at all...just very reasonably and justifiably skeptical. You are making an extraordinary claim here and your story keeps changing. You are providing little to no details and bringing up debunked or highly dubious anecdotes to support your claim. You never mentioned the 'plug' being involved until I pointed out how the screen story you were first going with was ridiculous.

Look, I get it...people get on anonymous support forums, post tall tales about some unbelievably unlikely thing happening to *just* them and see how many folks fall for their ridiculous story.

I'll leave you and your fun story alone now :)

Yes its the standard charger that came new in the box.

To the op above, I appreciate Ur explanation but I have to tell u that I cannot relate to tolling or invented stories etc. I'm a buy professional + a single parent & I don't have time in my life for that kind of nonsense ...really..what person over the age of 17/18 in this economy , this day & age has the time & resources to essentially prank call websites for user interface & assistance. There r always a percentage but I know of no one who isn't a juvenile (delinquent ) who would or even could do that. We're too busy SURVIVING MAXimizing out time mgmt skills just to keep our heads above water ... so you can see why that kind of interpretation of my very real & critical to me issue offends me & would never occur to me in the first place.

Now I've used up my time to say all that (my fault) but it puts me even further behind tonight. At least voice recog doesn't zap me but the errors drive me crazy. Not used to it.

In closing , I love the EVO & Sprint finally did right by me so I'm not putting them down ... my statement above regarding the % of EVO recipients with bugs, problems, trouble/ error tickets, bricked phones, screen Sep, light leaks, cracks from using in hot cars, and on & on with the endless buggy list & bad firmware versions .... I got my info straight from BOTH Sprint Telesales & customer retention (high level sprvsrs) but also each of the Sprint storefronts & repair centers in my area . I spent an average of 3.5 hrs each day for just under a week having to "interface " with them over my Palm Pre nightmare from day one of my first upgrade in FIVE years! Five new Pre s in the initial 30 days then multiple bad phones thru Assurion after being wrongly charged the huge deductible ..... now if were here to tell a "story" then I have the nonfiction version of "war & Peace" meets "Moby Dick" on that one. Search me out ... I may have mentioned once before but I certainly haven't trolled with it or anything even close ... I m only here to resolve my issue & I'm not in a no big deal just swap it kind of situation b/c of the Pre issues & this being a special favor. I hope going thru all that personal info will stop the Tude & waste of space postings. I shouldn't have to explain myself but that is my opinion & what I'm used to... In my environment, I'm the early adapter, benchmark-setter & reference person.... not the opposite-

Ok, I'm a sucker for a personal story pitch. Based on your description...it sounds like you are confusing the (very safe) haptic feedback feature of the phone with an electric shock. It makes the phone vibrate a little bit when you do something. Here is a technical description:

Haptic technology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If that is the case, then this is all just a case of you not knowing about that. It's a phone feature...the phone is not shocking you, it's just vibrating a little bit to let you know you are doing something...like touching the screen or one of the keys.

If it bothers you, you can turn it off. Just go to:

    Settings->Sound & display->Haptic feedback

    and turn it off.

If that is the case, then I retract all of my skeptical comments.

I'm going to try that right now .... you've been very helpful . I definitely am aware of the vibrate feature and it'a not the shock which is real & kinda painful + happens NOT when just keystroking but anytime the processor runs, it's charging or you have completed a circuit with double handhold on device. BUT I'm hoping it helps or offers some fix since it could only be possible with this type of keyboard that uses an electric charge or circuit to sense functions. The for taking the time to offer a real tip or fix.:)
