OK All - Flame away - I checked with TS - and his suggestion was to post it here - and sinec I'm an EVO "fan" like you all - this is as good a place to post it.

My situation is that I'm a Premier Customer - due for an upgrade in September. Called Sprint once - they said no to an early upgrade - but - I'm not done with them yet! Any way - IF I sould HAVE TO wait until September - I'm thinking tha tthere will be other + Android options available. The one that would be my 2nd choice (as of now) is the Galaxy S Pro. There's also a rumored Motorola Hi-End Android phone comint to Spring.

I guess - are/will there be others. Other than "Not as good as the EVO", does anyone know anything about the others? The speciaif question I have about Samsuns vs HTC is "Build Quality".

I think it's a good subject to be discussing (especially in MY situation LOL). Let's have a good discussion.

    TIA!

There is no doubt HTC makes exceptional phones, I would still take the EVO over the Galaxy S (Even Pro), Droid 2, and LG Aloha. You get Sense, which in my opinion, it worth it alone. I don't like OLED screens so I love the fact the EVO has a TFT LCD. In the end, the choice is yours, but I personally like the EVO because of the HUGE screen and Sense.

agreed with above... i guess it just depends what you are going to use the phone for, the Galaxy S has 3x the 3d processing power of a snapdragon, but at the same time i really realllly dislike the galaxy s because of all it's "i wanna be an iphone so bad" features... i mean come on, they put their own UI on it that looks identical to the iphone and even hardware wise it looks like one.

Sense is one of the biggest reasons for me to stay within the HTC fields. and even if a phone is better after release, it won't be by much and HTC will be right on there tail outdoing that phone again too... HTC has always been a top phone maker in my book so i would have no worries...

as for september, if you have to wait, im sure there will be other phones around, the EVO will still be hot as hell by that time but there might be some competition starting to float around, just depends on carrier, and phone size speed manufacturer and things like that :)

Carrier - I'm not switching from Sprint. The plan is too good.

Has Apple sued Samsung over the interface lookalike - or - is this one of the things that they've already been ruled against? Went to the Super market - and they were selling "Fruits formerly known as Apples". LOL

couldn't he/she root the galaxy and put whatever rom/ui he wanted on it? so you can have the super amoled of the galaxy with the ui of sense (if that's what the ui preference is).

there are tons of reasons to get either phone but pinning a decision on sense seems silly to me. i dunno, i'm a wm user possibly switching over to android but that wouldn't be an issue to me.

if for some reason you can't add sense to a galaxy then htc > samsung BY FAR. from my personal experiences with samsung gadgets i don't trust them one bit.

Why does everyone think you need to root a phone to put a custom ROM it? I'll never understand that.

Just so you guys know, the commonly referenced "Galaxy S UI looks like an iPhone" is actually just the Galaxy's app listing. The actually interface is more Sense UI than iPhone.

Personally, I have a Samsung Instinct right now, and its not bad - but its not good or great. I really want to get an HTC device...everything I've played with is really good and I really like how the company handles itself. I'm sure Samsung has improved their phones since I got mine 2 years ago, but I'm just ready to try something different.

Comes down to personal liking. The Samsung Galaxy is a little iPhone like, when it comes to the app layout. And it has that dock at the bottom. But it is clearly Android and still highly custom like. You can put your widgets etc all over it and it being a Android phone, it has to be able to get ported roms to it. I'm sure it can be done.

I wasn't so big on the S but, the more I check it out I like it. Still want the EVO though. If the S would of had Sense then, I really wouldn't be sure. I was so much on the EVO I didn't know the S had a front facing camera as well. Only diff between the two is specs, which are not that far apart from each other, and the biggest difference is 4G!

I believe 4G alone will allow you to do things no other phone or carrier will allow you to do. Now if this phone comes to all four carriers like rumored, then it will be a good add to the variety of diff Android interfaces and styles.

I believe a phone should be a phone first and personal play toy second, if the network behind the phone is lousy then no matter how good the phone is it will suck. As long as the iPhone & Samsung Galaxy S is on AT&T's network they will suck.

One of the posts said that the S Pro would be 4G - but like just about everything else here - it's all speculation.

That's why part of me says to just bite my lip - and wait until September.

uh because for a lot of people the evo will be people's first experience with android? i said from the beginning that i had no idea how android works and only assuming based on my experiences with windows mobile.

on winmo if you wanted a new rom you just "flash" the phone so i equated "root" to be the equivalent of flashing your phone. on winmo you can pretty much put the rom of any phone on any other winmo phone so is that possible with android? if so why are people citing sense as the reason to pick the evo over the galaxy??

Switching ROMs with an Android phone is exactly the same as WinMo, you don't need a .ruu file but you can simply flash with the stock update utility that comes with the phone or whatever tool was provided with the custom ROM wherever you downloaded it, and there is no need to root. SenseUI cannot be ported to other phones on Android (at least not yet).

Rooting an Android phone is exactly the same as going into a Windows OS and changing the user account type from normal user to Admin. In fact most tweaks that can be done on an Android phone don't even require you to root. Welcome to Android by the way.
