Exchange Contacts & Calendar appts duplicating on ICSSupport

First thread, I don't think it's been talked about before, but please forgive me if it has.

I've been seeing a problem and was wondering if others have been experiencing this as well.

On my Galaxy SII I have added my work email to sync email, contacts, calendar, etc. It's an Exchange 2010 (I believe) server so it obviously uses the Exchange Active Sync.

About this time last week I started noticing that some of the calendar appointments were duplicated (there were 4 or 5 of the same appointments on the calendar). I eventually also noticed that the contacts were duplicated. As time goes, more and more duplicates show up. So initially it'll be 2, then 3, then 4, etc.

I found on the internet that in Exchange there's a list of all the phones that connected to exchange accessible through the OWA client (via the web). So, went there and cleared out the duplicates. That didn't work, duplicates were still there.

I then deleted and re-added my exchange account from the phone. That seemed to work, but eventually the duplicates came back up. I then did a full factory reset (by accident, did you know if you go into OWA and do a "wipe" it does a full phone wipe? Well, I didn't.). After setting things back up, no luck. The duplicates came back up.

The only thing that seems to work at clearing up the duplicates is clearing the calendar and contact data. Go into Settings -> Applications -> All -> Contact Storage -> Clear Data (same for Calendar Storage). That will remove all contacts and calendar information and the phone will sync. Obviously that's just fixing the symptom not the issue.

Has anyone encountered this? It's not duplicates between different contact sources, but the same source.

I have the exact same issue with my S2. It appears that the calendar entries are getting duplicated every 12 hours as I get 2 new duplicates per day. I too have removed the corporate exchange account and reentered it with the same result, except you start from a clean calendar again. I did have contact duplications at first, but now I am getting just a couple and it is only specific contacts that it is happening to. Very strange and very frustrating.

ChuckHeston & GmanMD welcome to the forums.

You aren't the only ones with this problem. There are many on different android phones that say the problem started about a week ago.

I saw someone solved it by switching their Exchange connection to Touchdown. If that doesn't help I recommend calling Tmo and Samsung. If enough people report it maybe they will do something about it. Also try your IT guy where you work.

Maybe someone who has a better solution will see this and can offer some advice.

I have several users complaining of the same issues and in our case it seems to have started late last week. The first report came from a user with a brand new LG Viper, a Lenovo ThinkPad, and Microsoft Outlook 2010. He reported that he had as many as 11 duplicates of specific contacts, but not every contact. I was able to connect to his Outlook account and as I watched throughout the day, the contacts in his Outlook folder fluctuated from around 1100 all the way up to over 8000 and then back down to around 6000. The number of contacts on his phone remained constant, but his table had over 44000 contacts! Just this morning, several more users have reported this problem, one of them does not even have and Android phone, but both have ThinkPad tablets. Perhaps this is not an Android problem at all...
