I've posted this on several other forums and basically been told who cares about this problem because you shouldn't be using Facebook anyway.

I would like to use Facebook. It is a primary way I use to keep in contact with friends. There is no easy replacement. There is viable alternative. I can't convince everyone on my Facebook to try out some other service.

At the moment and for the last 2 months, through several updates and versions, the android Facebook app crashes why I try to add a status, add a picture, check-in. Basically all I can use the app for is the view messages, view newsfeed. I can reply or post comments or post a status. All that causes the app to crash.

It has also been pointed out to me that I can add a status through the website. But I can't easily add a picture or check-in. It is kind of a pain in the ass the use the full Facebook website on the phone in general.

Is anyone else even have this same problem? I can't even seem to get that out of anyone. Is this a problem unique to my phone? I've found a lot of crashing threads, but they all date to before about May it seems and most say that problem is fixed.

So is this a known, common problem? Is there a fix? Is there a way to go back to an old version of the app that worked?

I have app version 1.8.1 and firmware 2.3.6.. Should go without saying that I am using a Samsung Droid Charge.

Hello,

I was having a problem similar to yours...however, mine either fixed itself or I got it working without knowing what I did. So, its really hard to say exactly what I had done. Anyway, I would assume you had done all the "basic" troubleshooting steps already (cleared cookies, cache, and data from the phone's web browser - not the FB application). If not, then before doing anything - uninstall the Facebook app. After you have done all that, then reinstall the Android Facebook app - sign into your account and see what happen.

If all fails, then go on the full version of FB and request to change your password. Also, another choice is to use an application called 'FRIENDCASTER.'

I haven't experienced the problems you are having, however a Verizon rep I was talking to the other day (who seemed knowledgeable) told me that the Facebook app causes lots of trouble on Android devices.

Not as convenient as the app, but the mobile version of FB is actually pretty nice (and fast). m.facebook.com

Hope this helps while you try the other items to fix your app.

found the solution on another forum (where I believe you also posted to).

copy/paste for those on this forum

problem occurs if you are using more than one custom list in the privacy settings, specially for the default posting permissions.

To check that goto the privacy settings, click on custom in the "Control your Default Privacy" Section.
For make this visible select "Friends" or "Specific People or Lists". If you use "Specific People or List", than more than ONE person or lists will cause the ForceClose. So just enter only ONE list/person.

For "hide this from" there is no limit of lists/persons, all working...

I love you cheezeboy. I was having this issue since december and have searched all the web, many times looking for a solution. And it was exactly what you've said.

I also noted that the crash didn't occur when I was connected through wifi. But this didn't resolve the problem. Mainly because the mayority of the time we wan't to post something from phone app is when we aren't connected through wifi.

Regards.

Luis

My phone: Samsung Gnex (ICS 4.0.2 / GSM)

Caught facebook app red-handed today on Watchdog. Consuming up to 44.5% CPU resource running in background even after I exit from facebook... As a comparison, my Poweramp playing my mp3s on background with settings 'Highest Thread Priority' and '750ms' buffers only consumes no more then 7.8% CPU resources.

Why does facebook require so much resources to run in background? Hope that facebook team patch it up on the next update or I'm gonna uninstall that app.

Gonna send a feedback to facebook team btw.
