Fast battery drain + HOT phone

For some reason my battery is draining incredibly fast. I thought maybe I'd installed something that was eating it so I re-flashed and didn't let it auto-restore. That hasn't helped.

I also noticed that the phone feels hot. I was running a battery monitor app that showed it was hitting 116 degrees.

I'm considering unrooting and taking the phone to Verizon and swapping it out..

For the record, my wife has an identical phone sans root and external SD card. Hers does not have these issues.

Is this a fluke or is this phone known to run hot and drain the battery fast?

Is there a chance that you have some account sync corruption? Are you seeing a constant sync indicator (an icon with two arrows pointing to each other's ends in a circular shape)? If you look under settings->accounts, look to see if one of your account listed there, when you tap, shows a constant sync.

If so, there is a way to fix it on the phone.

I have only had a hot phone when I use my phone to navigate - that really taxes the battery hard.

    Nope. No constant sync indicator.

I'd tried a couple of ICS ROMs then reflashed Maverick 4.5 but was having issues with the radio. So I restored the last version I had prior to the ICS ROMs.

Prior to restoring, the battery was initially showing 89.6 degrees. This was after having been running overnight. Once the restore had been up for a couple of minutes, it jumped to 104.

If this is all of a sudden I would take it back if it is under it's year warranty.

Sounds like something that occurs when phone is searching for service constantly.

My LG Thrill was doing weird things before I finally used my ins claim on it.

It would be at like 20% battery life then act up a bit....I would turn it off and when I turned it back on it would at 4% battery life.

I did drop that thing a bunch and it had a cracked screen so i will take the blame.

I was considering taking it in. I've only had the phone a couple of months.

I'd just need to un-root it first. No idea how to do that. I'm running Safestrap 2.10.

To unroot, you'll need to restart the phone, hit menu to restart safestrap, and use Safestrap's safe menu to toggle safe mode off. Restarting the phone should have the phone in a rooted stock system.

Start the Safestrap app in the rooted stock system and uninstall recovery. Restart the phone to make sure that the Safestrap menu does not pop up.

So I'm running rooted stock and after having run it overnight, the battery temperature has been around 89 degrees. I'm wondering if something in Maverick 4.5 was whacky.
