Firmware update

Another opportunity to make a total arse out of myself again...

I'm on firmware 1.5.

My kernel (what on Earth is that when it's at home) is 2.6.27

How do I update the firmware?

I'm not a complete noob - all is not lost, I have rooted it and I have tried other ROMs. (At least I thought I had rooted it- whilst dowloading a wifi tether it told me my device wasn't rooted.)

Are you talking about the offical firmware update? If so, the build number is the important one to look for, if it's not 2.73 you need an update.

If you have an unlocked phone go here

If you have a carrier branded version (like the G2), you need to go to your carriers website.

Oh ok so the firmware number is insignificant. It's orange UK and I'm on their latest 2.73. Do I take it that this is still android 1.5 though?

Yes, HTC have skipped 1.6 in favour of 2.0 and we will hopefully be getting that before christmas (although nothing official has been announced on the time scales, just that it definatly is coming to the Hero)
