So I decided to turn auto brightness on so I can see the screen when I'm outside, but I notice that when I'm in the dark the screen is so dim that the flashlight doesn't work anymore. I searched for a new one with a function to override brightness control but I don't think there is one. Anyone know of one that I may have missed?

I had the same issue, found one that said it did just that. It failed. Sorry but I don't even remember which one that was. Good luck.

I use an app called Droid Light on the Droid. It uses the flash LED though. Looks like you have the Hero, not sure if it has a flash or if the app is even available.
