In the UK we have two radio stations that are unique; Radios 3 and 4:-

    BBC - Radio 4 - Home

    BBC - Radio 3 - Home

I access these a lot on my mobile phone via its FM receiver. I understand the Droid does not have an FM receiver, or at least it is not accessible.

When I need to use my phone FM receiver I am not really in a wifi hotspot so cannot browse to these stations; mostly when on long distant buses.

Has anyone any idea of how I could receive these stations on the Droid?

No way to overcome this if you are not in range of a WiFi or 3G network.
