My advice is this. Dont.Get.This.Phone. Ive had mine since Friday, by Friday night they decided to send me a new replacement already, but I dont think it is going to help. My data is nearly non existant(had perfect data service on my Moto Droid). Phone service blows with the phone, whereas I could make and recieve calls without issue at all on my Moto Droid. I answer a call on the Thunderbolt and it immediately drops it. I tried the *#*#4636#*#* and switched it to 3g only, no help at all. Signal Strength hoovers around -101 to -110. Even in the bigger town 9 miles up the road where service is much better, I still stay in the mid -90's. My thinking at first was that it was VZW's 4g service. I am not in a 4g area, and that could possibly mean that the phone wont work very well, but I am now convinced it is problems with the phone itself. I am getting my replacement tomorrow or Tuesday and will give it 1 day. If it isnt improved I am demanding that they give me my upgrade back and I will await the Motorola Droid Bionic.
In ending, the worst phone I have ever owned was the Motorola q9m(at least 10 replacements before they decided to just ship me the touch pro), but the HTC Thunderbolt is catching up quickly, which is a shame after patiently waiting 2 months on the release of this beautiful piece of crap. As of now, it is basically a $200 paper weight.

Majority of us are not having issues a all. How can this be as bad as a phone you had 10 replacements with when they are sending out one replacement. This is technology. Once and a while a bad apple comes out and has to be replaced.

Zero issues here. It's been great and much better than my Fascinate and Dinc do far.

My Thunderbolt is wonderful. I Love It! I have to admit most of my troubles have been user error and not the hardware. You will always have software glitches with new hardware usually these are fixed quick enough with an OTA update. I'm very happy with mine.

My phone is awesome. Once I sorted out which app was draining my battery, it is now the Best phone I ever owned believe it or not.

I have to agree with everyone other than the OP. My thunderbolt has been amazing. I am only in a 3G area, but battery life has been really good for me, and I've had zero issues with the phone. No crashed, reboots, etc. I can't speak for 4G areas draining the battery and if that is still happening for people, but from my perspective I highly recommend this phone.

Sounds like the OP is just really frustrated. Listen, just wait for your replacement to arrive and then make your choice. This could all be cleared up with a new device. These phones would ALL be returned if people were experiencing 1/2 of what you describe. Sounds like you got a lemon.

I declined to get the Thunderbolt the other day after playing with both demos in the store. I may change my mind this week, as it turns out both devices there had been messed with by goofy "customers," along with several other demos in there, including the X, an iPad 2 and one of the little netbooks.

I'd posted my misgivings about the T-bolt around here, but that was before going back to the store Sunday, when I brought up my experience with the demo T-bolts. She apologetically told me about the complaints from sales reps there and customers about various demos.. so, I'm reconsidering.

Meanwhile, here's a review from one of my favorite review sites:

Would you mind sharing with us which app was the one draining your battery and how did you work around it? Thanks

My data is spotty at best. I think its the hand off being in a 4g border type area. At work i have constant 3g data no where near 4g. I'll give Verizon some time to work on it while i use WiFi at home because I love this phone

Big down. No toggle and battery.

3g/4g toggle will be made and about 20 others.
Battery should get a bit better with Romming

    Seriously frisco?

Thought you would see this is hands down the top android phone right now. Others are close, very close, but for the next 3 weeks this guy rules the air.

It's a tricky situation, some on here love the phone...Omg, best call quality, like a land line, not one issues, my battery last for 20 hrs on super dupa heavy use on full time 4G, and I can't kill the battery even if I tried, I have no light leakage, no dust under my screen,I have zero lag...blah,blah,blah! Lmaoooooo....anyway, my take is that the phone is decent at best, a lot of people are just on the Thunderbolt cool aid right now. I wouldn't label it as a failure, it'll sell well. However the phone has issues with every thing I said above. Mainly, every issue the EVO had, the TB has! For the exception of call quality, my EVO had great call quality, the TB does not. My Fascinate and Droid X had much better call quality.

    To the OP,
I'd try one more, and see how it goes, if no dice just wait for the Bionic! I for one can't wait for VZW to drop it, I'm very impressed with the Atrix, and really think moto nailed it. For the exception of at&t's data sucking with they're no existing 4G...

The Bionic will be the real deal IMO.

VZW has already stated there are data issues. The OP may be in an area that is in a bad location for the issues.

Though the OP's title is rather broad and absolute, some of the fanboy luv can be a bit too broad and absolute in the opposite direction. The device has a few issues- just like any other.

The 3G/4G auto change appears to be part of the battery issue, since sudden and frequent step changes in voltage for 3G/4G is not the best thing for power regulation. Quite the opposite.

Ive had some issues with this phone but non of them had to do with data or calls. As a matter of fact this is the clearest sounding phone Ive ever had. Calls are sharp and crystal clear. Data has not been an issue later. Only issue so far is just battery life and not being able to use a headphone with a mic in it on this thing

Only issue I found was in a crappy reception area when I was at 1 bar of 3G and ended up in 1x...couldn't text with 1 bar of 3G, but as soon as I turned on my wifi I could text like a champ.

Have you ever thought it might just be you? My first cell phone was an Oki bag phone, and I've only taken back one phone. (you should have seen the VZW people when I told them I wanted to return the iPhone) Let alone 10 of the same kind. I used to work with a guy who could barely plug in an extension cord without getting shocked, not that he touched the prongs, he was just very electrically sensitive. Perhaps you may suffer from a similar condition.

As yours is the first mention I've seen of this, and I myself have had no problems with reception, I think it would be safe to say it is a rare problem. Have you ever tried using a BT headset and not touching the phone?

    Zero issues here.

I am sorry the OP is having issues.

Doesn't mean everyone else should NOT buy the phone.
  23. No issues here I love my tb so much better than the fascinate

If you don't like it, return it. But that doesn't mean that the rest of the technology world isn't going to like it or have a bad experience.

well, for me... I think going from my ORIGINAL "CRAPPY" BB Storm 9530 has been the best thing that has ever happened to me. of course, there is NO comparison between the two but hey, I'm not complaining.

although, I must say that I was content until the TB came out with my storm, did me well... until the second one came out >.>
