DONT BE! Honestly, to put it as simply as I can, Verizon has an unconditional 30 day satisfaction guarantee, so if you end up not liking it after 2 or even 3 weeks, just bring it back! Being worried about the phone's keyboard, or some other function/part, should not stop you from picking one up tomorrow, especially since if you dont get one tomorrow, you wont be getting one for atleast 4 months. Here is my logic...

I recently spoke with a verizon manager in our local area and he informed me of a store email he recieved from their district manager's boss. The blackberry storm when it came out last year had only about 21,000 people registered for email "updates" before the phone came out. The Storm was sold out in almost every store across the country for 4 months, even the verizon corporate stores, who get shipment preference over third parties, couldnt get their hands on them. And that was the Storm, a poorly made, Ill fated excuse for a blackberry.

Now consider this, the Droid alone had over 100,000 people registered for email updates as of wednesday of LAST week. With all the press, that number has no doubt reached well over 150,000 if not 200,000. If the Storm was sold out for 4 months, imagine how long the Droid will be sold out...

Point is, even if your worried, get your hands on one while you can! If you dont like it within thirty days, bring it back! Heck, by the end of thirty days, with supplies in the dumps, you could probably sell it on ebay for well over $600 (where they are now), theres a reason why I'm picking up two Droids tommorow morning....

Hope it brings some common sense home,

You really think it will sell out like that?

I was planning to look at it tomorrow then think about it over the weekend

I do, atleast in my views, after looking at the sheer number of things and also considering the Droid has been given much better initial "outlook" then the Storm ever had on its launch. Really, unless your planning on spending that money somewhere else within a week, then I would say to go ahead and pick one up, if you dont like it then go ahead and sell it (like I will be doing with my extra) or just return it if you dont want to sell it. Needless to say, for someone to actually be put into a losing position would be a very hard thing to do, and the only way I can see it happening, is if someone doesnt play it safe by picking one up, and its those people who will be furious when they cant get their hands on one a week later.

Just a bit of a tangent, but it reminds me of when the Xbox 360 came out. I am a big gamer, always have been. When the 360 came out, I waited 26.5 hours as 2nd in line outside of a bestbuy sitting in a camping chair, and sleeping on the concrete floor in the semitruck loading dock in the rain once they moved the line behind the store because it was getting too long. By 6am the next morning, I was 2nd out of over 600, and I was glad I played it safe after the manager told me they only got a shipment of thirty. So, I decided to play it even "safer" and buy two, just as my brother did (he was 3rd). We were both able to sell our 360's on ebay the next day for well over 4,000 after bidding was finished (keep in mind we bought them for 500 each), and it is thus that I am picking up atleast two of these phones tomorrow.

Oh and heres a tip which I'm putting to use tommorow morning. Mall security, maintenance, and store employees often use a side entrance to go into work before the mall itself opens (I work in a mall, so I'm lucky enough to know exactly which door this is at my location). So look for this door and use it to go and get inside half an hour or even 15 minutes before the front doors are unlocked. I know that in my case I will be sitting in the food court right next to the Verizon Kiosk enjoying a warm donut (yay for highschool metabolisms!) while people wait in a line outside in the cold rain. Needless to say, I'll be first to pick up the Droid in my local area, hope you can be the same!

Nah! The guys at my bestbuy said they have had 8 preordered out of 30 they got. And they had another shipment confirmed already. Or I hope I can get one of the 15th at least. We will see.

Asst. Mgr. at a local store here in SoCal says the local stores each have a couple hundred droids on-hand. I don't think there will be a big problem getting one if you want one.

The lady at the corporate store today said that she had 90 coming and seemed to think that was going to be plenty. I was put on for a noon appointment, only because she doesn't get there until 11:30. Regardless, one is reserved for me although I doubt it was necessary.

The other thing to think about is how much supply they have. The Iphone sold out and was hard to get because of supply problems. It was extremely popular, don't get me wrong, but Verizon/Motorola might have looked at that and decided it wasn't going to happen to them.

I wouldn't worry. This thing wasn't anywhere near as hyped up as the Iphone. I don't think I'll be hearing the same "Oh man, how do you like that phone" like I still do with my Iphone. There have been 4 years of a phone that does all sorts of really cool stuff already, the same technology in a new phone isn't that cool anymore. Think of the 3GS. Who really upgraded to that and why?

I understand you points, and I appreciate them :) All I have to say is that I find it very believable that the secondary rush to get the phone (one or two days after launch), once everyone sees it out, will be just as strong as the initial one, if not stronger. But time will tell!

Either way I wouldn't be surprised, but my money is betting on it not being sold out everywhere tomorrow, or even close.

    Better safe than sorry.

my local verizon store received 110 droids and 40 droid eris's. This is a small town also so i don't believe i will have a problem getting one going in friday night or saturday during the day. Only thing i was upset about yesterday when i went in is that they would only let me play with the eris and not the motorola. Eris was a very nice feeling phone though.

The rep at my local Verizon store said she got 50 in, and we're out in BFE, so I think Verizon actually planned for a huge turnout. I imagine that there will still be locations that sell out on day one, but you'll probably be able to call around and find someone that has them in.

    Precisely :)

And Stangs55 thank you for pointing that out! Hopefully if anyone was ever placed in that situation they could convince the manager to void the fee :)

I talked to the rep for our business today and she has hooked up a few friends to have phones delivered in the morning. She also mentioned they got 2 in their office on Tuesday and said they are very nice and wants to get one. But she also said that employees can't get theirs tomorrow because they are anticipating sell outs. She didn't know what the totals were going to be at different locations but she did say we expect sell outs.

Yeah I am up in Northern California, and I know most every one of the managers I have talked to is expecting full sellouts. People living in less populated areas may get lucky, but I know I'm going to play it safe haha

I think a secondary surge can be expected. I'm sure I'm not the only one out there that has other bills to pay before I pick mine up...Right now, I'm on part unemployment, and part time work, and need to pay some other bills with unemployment this week. I will be picking mine up (subject to availability) next Thursday or Friday...

in the 30 day policy, do you HAVE to exchange it for a different phone, or can you get a full money refund on it?
