I have a Evo on one of my lines that pissed me the hell off after the 2.2 update and I have a Epic at a Radio Shack waiting for me this very second when I'm able to sneak out of work. I was just curious to hear what any former Evo users thought. I cant wait to get it to see if ##775# works...Long story regarding force roaming. Although I'm not much of a cell gamer dude I am curious to see if Asphalt 5 looked better then the Evo since the 30 fps cap def.shows, (gets choppy when too many cars are onscreen). I'm thinking if I like the Epic enough I'm sell my Evo and make my money back ez...

Epic is much better than the EVO at 3D. On the neocore benchmark, the EVO gets 27fps while the Epic gets 50+. I think you'll be very happy.

rooted the Evo is very very comparable to the Epic. so much so that i'd only tell someone to pick up one or the other for specific features (ie Evo for HDMI out, 4.3" screen, no keyboard or Epic for SAMOLED screen, slideout keyboard, or games)

they both have a ton of cool features. it would be extremely hard, imo, to say one was absolutely better than the other.

ps- my Epic arrives mid month. don't need to be an early adopter this go 'round :p

Good information. I may def. miss the giant screen and never got to use the HDMI cable..I guess thats why it'll be good to have both in hand at the same time and see which I prefer better.Always good to hear peoples opinions to just in case you missed something. Definitely looking forward to playing with the Epic..

As a matter of fact...*leaves work to go to Radio Shack*.. keep it coming!

but which screen looks better? :p
and, when typing in applications, you can use the slideout keyboard instead of software which makes your screen real-estate actually bigger because you don't have that keyboard on there ;)

I actually am completely content with my EVO, but will also have an Epic at the end of the day for one of my other lines. I won't be using it, but I'll definitely be testing it prior to handing it over...hahaha.

I bought the epic this morning and i still have my evo. I can say after looking at the screen on the epic, its hard to go back to the evo. I still like my evo better because of screen size and sense. I am using launcherpro on the epic and its way smoother than it ran on the evo. Games are smoother too. This is a going to be a hard decision.

I have an EVO also. My other line is due for an upgrade at the beginning of October. So i will test out the EPIC at some point for the other line. I dont think i could switch due to the thickness factor. I carry the phone in my front pocket all the time so i dont know how i would feel about having a phone that bulky in my pocket. My other line is used by the fiance. She carries her palm pre in the purse so the thickness probably wont matter as much. Although i do wish sprint got the non keyboard versions of the Epic as well as the keyboard version. It seems like verizon customer get so many choices and we get just 2. Evo or Epic.

I have used the Galaxy S phones on tmobile and att. Overall it was nice. Touch wiz is no match for Sense UI. But i think you can customize it through the market place to make it look a little less iphone'ish.

The GPS issue does concern me since i find myself using google Nav a lot. So much that i should buy a dedicated Nav.....but i just cant get myself to buy something that i get free on my phone. But the Epic GPS may be better than Vibrant or captivate but still doesnt sound very reliable.

Overall i am glad i have to wait on the next line upgrade for a month. It will give me time to make the right choice for the lady. She still blames me for picking the Palm Pre for her. I dont want to hear how bad her phone sucks for another year.haha

Unfortunetly I am just trying out only some of the features of the phone. If I don't keep it, I will end up selling it as new. I didn't take anything off including the screen protector. I wish I could test the gps but that will run up data and make the phone used.

Owned the Evo for 29 days before returning it. Picked up my Epic this morning and so far I have no complaints. I am very happy with it, especially since it keeps pleasantly surprising me throughout the day with minor touches.

For example I got a call in class. I slid it to ignore with text and pre written texts came up for selection. One stated I was in class, I responded to the call in a matter of 5 seconds while letting the person know I got the call and would respond back to them.

I enjoy the simple out of the box experience. I love tinkering with my phone but it's always a pleasure when something is good enough that I don't have to change it.

Sounds like ultimately it'll come down to 2 choices: 1) Screen Size vs. Screen Clarity, and/or 2) physical qwerty and added thickness vs. no physical qwerty and less thickness.

Other than that, I think both phones are going to be considered top tier.

Clarity is important but doesn't affect function so I guess that is a preference. I will say that the slide out keyboard makes me type slower than the onscreen of the Evo and I find myself still using swype, which by the way is much smoother on the Epic than when used on the EVo. I can't really explain it but it functions better to me.

I am looking at resale of the Evo and notice the price is starting to drop. If I can't get what I want for the Evo, my choice will be made just on that alone.

yah you just pretty much confirmed my decision ha. i hate the dock limitations in Sense so i already use LauncherPro and the screen size isn't a big deal as long as it's not below 4".

Wow, really? I'd think that you could still get a good amount of money for an EVO, considering they're still really difficult to get brand new.

Either way, sounds like the Galaxy S line is really living up to the hype. The only thing I found disappointing was that the EVO didn't quite live up to the hype that it was given (IMO). I'm still extremely happy with it as compared to my the phone I had (Touch Pro), but it could've been so much better.

This is good to know. The person I'll be getting the Epic for will be coming from an Instinct, so hopefully it'll be a MUCH easier experience as far as learning curve is concerned. I personally found the Instinct to be completely illogical.

i figured things would probably run a little smoother on the Epic vs the Evo. if you haven't used qwerty keypads or even recently, i'd recommend giving yourself a few days to get used to it. ultimately, you should be faster and more error free with the qwerty.

regarding price of the Evo, if it's 2.2 rooted and you sell some accessories with it, you should get a realllllly nice penny for it. $450 i'd think at least. i have so many accessories to sell with my Evo (IF i sell it) that i'll easily get $500 and cover the entire cost of the Epic at full retail. i'm the best at reselling phones on eBay.

Just came back from Radio Shack. Ended up doing a return on the Epic because they use my new line to get a phone brand new rather then upgrade line for Epic and kids phone as upgrade which I would of gotten my kids Rumor 2 free..he was pissed because now that Epic has to go back to the warehouse as a return but who cares.Wasnt gouing to pay an additional $50 for a phone that was free as a new line..Enough ranting..

I held that baby a few seconds. i did like the roundness but your right about the Evo spoiling people. I also noticed the screen looked more dull and not as bright as Evo? Guess I got 30 days regardless. No cut and paste though??!!! Now that sucks! I do a lot of texting..

    I just
That fact that its a tough decision is a good thing to me being I'd be pissed the Evo was blowing past the Epic. Been waiting for a big screen keyboard phone for a longtime, (Touch Pro 2 days)..

I originally bought it to turn a profit because I have some car bills to take care of. I hate timing belts by the way. Now I am faced with a decision.

more dull and not as bright as the Evo? wut?
that should be flipped. the Evo should be not as bright and a little washed out when compared to the Epic.
