    So here's my crazy story.....

The wife and I have both been on AT&T for 12 years. I've had the 3G and 3GS and she has a P.O.S. Samsung Epix WinMo phone. She actually ordered an iPhone 4 but we were both unhappy with the Apple press conference and said screw it and returned it. The people at AT&T couldn't believe we were returning it. They asked why and my wife pretty much told them it's because Steve Jobs is a douche. She wouldn't even look at the Samsung Captivate on AT&T because she loathes Samsung phones now.

So we went to Verizon and both fell in love with the Droid X. We went in to sign up tonight and ran into a little issue. Apparently some putz named Ernesto had used my wife's social security number some years ago to sign up for Verizon and then didn't pay his bill. So we had to go through this drawn out process dealing with Verizon's fraud department and prove that my wife is who she says she is. We're pretty laid back so we weren't stressing. The Verizon store rep was so apologetic and cool. We eventually got it straightened out.

We got the phones for $199.99 each with no mail in rebate, no activation fees, free overnight shipping (when they are in stock :( ), and they paid the $120 ETF for my 3GS (coming to Craigslist soon). Pretty happy so far and looking forward to my Droid X!

I just got bored with the iPhone. Not much of a difference to me between the 3GS and the 4. Good phone, just not for me anymore. Can't wait to dive into Android!

Yeah, it's a pretty sweet deal. I can use the money I get for selling my 3GS to pay for at least one of the phones. The wife also gets a 22% off Verizon so the deal keeps getting better.

We were with AT&T for 12 or 13 years (back when it was Cingular) so this is a big change for me.

I am in the same boat. Was with AT&T for 14 years back to Pac Bell Wireless days. Am loving the X so far. Still have not transfered the number over but the wife and I are sold so just a few more days to make sure the service is where we want it and bye, bye AT&T.

Indirects may pay ETFs. Corporate stores = no.

How did you buy your phones to get Verizon to cover the ETF? Did you purchase through Verizon? or a Verizon reseller STORE?

I'm calling shenanigans on this.. Pics or it didnt happen.

Wrong. It was a corporate store. We're in Lexington, Kentucky for two months and I got the phones here at a corporate store.

    I'm ready!

Lol! It's called negotiating. I do it on everything. Never buy anything at face value. I told him what I wanted to switch from AT&T and he met my needs. As far as the ETF goes HE actually brought that up to me before I could even ask for it. I don't know if they are desperate for sales or if they get a big bonus for selling Droid X's on new contracts but he really wanted our business.

You guys can call BS all you want but I'm happy!

The $120 ETF will actually be paid to me as a $120 credit off my first bill.

You guys need to ask if you're switching from another carrier. He did ask if I was an iPhone user. Maybe they get a bonus for that as well.

I went to another corporate store about five minutes away and talked to another sales rep. I asked him why the Droid X was more in the store than online and why there was a mail in rebate. He said right away he could get it for $199.99 with no rebates.

I just combined the two offers and went back to the first store and he said no problem. I hope this helps someone out.

damn, is it Verizon or independent stores that are covering the ETF. In other words, do you have to go to a corporate store or do you have to poll independents to see if they will do this

Both of the stores I went to were Verizon corporate stores in Lexington, KY. I was switching 2 lines from AT&T and 1 line was an iPhone. Hope that helps.

Kudos on the spiffs. I know no corp. store around here can or will honor the online no-rebate pricing nor pay any ETFs.

Yeah. Looking forward to getting it. One of the reasons I went with Android is that 2.2 sounds like it will make this phone even better.

Give Customer Care and call and see about getting a credit on your bill for having to pay an ETF w/prev wireless carrier.

I have both an iphone4 and DX. Both of them a great phones with each having advantages and disadvantages. Overall UI on the iphone is smoother along with more polished apps, but thats about it. I will admit I'm an Apple fanboy. I own an imac, macbook, ipad and iphone, but really do enjoy the DX and Android.

I was all for iPhone for the longest time. It's a great phone and even the iPhone 4 is a solid device....but I was fed up with AT&T and was ready for something new. Honestly, I do not regret my decision on the DX one single bit. Verizon coverage is SO much better as is the customer service. And the DX gives me everything that I could want in a phone!
