Title says it all
Yes; Phases posted about an exploit discovered in Tapatalk yesterday..
Something new is going to take its place.
Thanks for the link. I had no idea there was a security issue. Kinda sucks since this forum was the only reason why I purchased Tapatalk Pro from the Market lmfao.
Well, Phases and crew seem to be highly aware of Tapatalk's popularity and it appears they are bound on having the new Phandroid thingy.. <---- high tech terminology.. in place before the Summer is over.
Perhaps the tag line will be, "Sent from My Eris Using Robotalk"
I suspect many of us did the same. How ironic is it then that, as I understand it, the accounts most at risk from the discovered vulnerability were those of users who had downloaded a hacked warez copy of the app?
No longer a contributing member. Account pending for deletion.
Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see what they decide to do going forward.
Awesome! I've been hoping for a Phandroid app for a while. Glad I held off buying Tapatalk.
damn, this really sucks as it was so much easier to browse when out and about using tapatalk, it looks like they developed a fix though reading from the website, if there is a fix why not re-enable it until whatever is brewing is up and ready to go?
I love funny avatars ..
very very sad to see it disabled, especially since i have seen on tapatalk.com that the exploit has been fixed. this will severely limit my time on this forum when not at home. grrrr
I think the exploit was just a nice, easy way for the admins to get rid of an app that eliminates some of their ad impressions. I understand that ads are what pay for AF, but I can guarantee you that the majority of tapatalk users ALSO visit the site from their PCs when home. The fact that they haven't re-enabled tapatalk now that the exploit has been patched is just more evidence that it (the exploit) was just a means to an end - getting users to utilize a proprietary app from which they can display more ads and generate more revenue.
I miss Tapatalk Pro.
^^^this, agreed, sad...
also they seem to be pushing this phandroid developed app that "should be out before the end of august" so we'll pull support for a program that is dangerous even though the exploit was already fixed... more sad...
i bought tapatalk pro because of this forum and now this forum wont let me visit it using tapatalk pro...
Why not PM one or more of the admins and just ask them about that?
Your post is polite, for the most part, but it does seem to have a sort of accusatory air to it, fueled by an assumption.
Hard to say.. You could be right. Whether you are or not, you have every right to question motives and display your opinion.
Gee, talk about "damned if they do, damned if they don't"....
Can you imagine the outrage if the owner/Admins hadn't acted, accounts had been compromised and the site and its data (not just yours and mine but everything) was made vulnerable? Then they would have been accused of being negligent, irresponsible and betraying the trust of their members.
It's one thing to complain about being inconvenienced, it's quite another to start chucking around unsubstantiated allegations about the motives. The person that forks out large amounts of money to make Android Forums available to us - free, gratis and for nothing - deserves a hell of a lot more respect than that.
Sometimes "rights" are used to display crass, knee-jerk reactions to things being worked out by those with our best interests in mind.
I understand the frustration, but can't it lead to anticipation and hope rather than to unappreciative, uninformed veiled accusations?
I'm really not trying to spout off to mods because I know how hard and thankless it is most of the time doing the work you guys put it, I've done it before, but damned if you do and damned if you dont huh? Maybe the part that I dont understand is the post where Phases explained why it was being pulled was made on 7/14 where as the link in Phases own post about the security exploit and the update to fix it was posted to the tapatalk site 6/26. The site pulled support for a product that a lot of people bought because of this site three weeks after the exploit was fixed?!? To me that doesnt sound like it was done for the safety of the site's members, esp when you yourself stated the accounts most at risk were warez copies.
By the time the decision was made to pull support for it "effective immediately" there had been a fix in place for 19 days, I counted it off on a calendar.
Its great that Phandroid wants to put an app out but its not here yet and AF yanked support for an amazing app that was pulled quite a long time after the exploit had already been corrected.
On a different and lighter note I'm lazy, I like that I can visit several different forums with a whole range of categories in one app...
It's a way of life for me.
While I can understand a little of a conspiracy theory mindset in many of things that people go through in life, but really? You guys think tapatalk was disabled so that AF would get more Ad revenue? Seriously?
OTD, I didnt say it was done for more ad revenue, but to say that AF is pulling tapatalk for our safety three weeks after the security exploit was fixed seems a bit of a stretch...
Tapatalk has released several patches this past 2 weeks, including one today to resolve the security issues. There really remains no excuse not to have it, other than greed i guess. Use ours (in 2 months) or use nothing at all! Who knows also if this new app will cost us another 3 dollars, if so i hope its included with us premium members (donators)
The way I see it is that those complaining are those that have paid for a 3rd party app that nowhere on phandroid or AF states that this 3rd party plugin will always be enabled. In purchasing such a 3rd party app you put yourself at the mercy of any forums you use it on discontinuing any support. They have every right to protect their investments in whichever way they deem fit. We are their guests in their house and as such should feel we have the right to dictate how they should decorate or kit it out.
You took the risk and it didn't pay off. Just another lesson learned. Get over it and move on. If the lack of tapatalk results in your lack of posting or defection to another community so be it. Dedicated members who'll stay with AF through thick and thin on the other hand will always be held in high regard. I mean of all those who speak highly of tapatalk, why don't you ask if you maybe involved with a beta test of the new local app. That way your input will make the app better than Tapatalk could be for you here and will be much more productive than whining about it.
