    Hi there:

I'm brand new to the eris, had it about 2 weeks.

So far it's been very positive but i am very frustrated at the apps i'm limited to use because of force closures that i experience 9 out of 10 times.

I do have a lot of apps that work and they work flawlessly for me. The usual most popular ones but i keep running into this problem of force closures.

As an example I was looking for a shopping/grocery list app, there are plenty and i think i had to try all of them before I found one that would work. Now it's not that they don't work when i install them, they all worked great, but when i restart the phone they force close phone, htc sense, gps, mobile network and usually a whole bunch of other things too. So i have to uninstall, power cycle and it'll work fine. I ended up finding 1 app that would work, it wasn't the one i wanted, but i had no choice.

Even the app from verizon wireless themselves, written by them, installed on their phone had the same problem. I have only installed apps from the market, i've looked for some troubleshooting app but there is none. I don't know what to do. Even an app that was one of the first i installed and worked but was a trial (I uninstalled it) only 2 days ago, then last night searching online for recommended vid players the same one was suggested, so i figured i'd give it a try. Same thing, force closures on restart, from an app that had been working with no probs.

I have no idea what to do about this situation, is it gonna get worse ?

First of all, I'm a new user as well. I've found with android its really a user friendly in customization. You can do really anything you want to or that there's an app for.

You have to pick and choose your apps and usually the most popular ones are the ones that work the most because the dev has seen the response to their app so they update and improve it.

The not so popular ones kind of just fall by the wayside. My phone also had a huge issue with fc's but I updated most of my apps and uninstalled the ones that I didn't use that often. and ended up finding a bunch of ones that I really liked that are pretty popular.

There's a few threads around that list the 'must haves' and can't do with out apps. Android is really what you make of it. And I wouldn't stress the fc issues unless it gets worse, then it may be a hardware problem.

ha, look out its a trap! :)

but seriously task killer = bad. Only use when theres a critical failure and the system can't take care of the app.

well I have a task killer. I tried a few but settled on advanced task manager (blue icon) I tried the other one, with the green droid icon but find this offers more detailed info. I'd read about not using a task manager to kill off things so i try not to but when i start this up it seems like so many progs open with it. I don't have any selected to open/run on startup but yet cnet, barcode scanner, pandora, twidroid, imusic, lastfm etc....
None of these are selected to open/run on startup and yet there they are. But i have had these force closures when i have left everything running or when i have closed out those few progs listed above. I mean what does a tetris game need barcode scanner for ?

I would really suggest uninstalling all of your apps, including the task manager, and only add one or two at a time, probably per day. Sometimes certain apps will cause problems for other apps, so it is a good idea to go slowly just to make sure the apps you are installing aren't interfereing with eachother.

And as far as the task manager goes, yes it is alarming to see all the programs that show up on start up, but really, your phone can and will handle it. I have been task killer free for two weeks and have had zero issues. In fact, I had to uininstall Task panel because it had started to cause quite a bit of lag. So I would suggest that you just try it, let your phone do it's thing and for sweet baby Jesus' sake, (and I'm talking to everyone here) lay off the apps! If you haven't used an app in the last week, just uninstall it. You can always go back and get it again if you must have it.
