My Optimus V has been rock solid, I rooted it to remove some bloatware, but it is Stock Otherwise. My only complaint with the device is screen size, and memory. The CPU is a little sluggish but I only notice slowdowns when using navigation. Switching orientation while using navigation seems to just kill the little guy, but if I am patient he comes back to me eventually.

I would think the LG Marqee (optimus black) would be pretty reliable. I don't think it got much complaints when it was released on Sprint. I hear a lot of conflicting stories on the Triumph. I think there was just a few really bad lemons in there that caused a lot of problems. My hesitation with it now, is there seems to be no push from Motorola or VM to get that device to 2.3. I cannot see spending money on a new phone that is not at least to 2.3 at this point.

My V was rock solid from the get go, bought it in late March last year. I rooted, removed some bloat ware, overclocked to 768. My complaints were small screen size, and low memory. It still ran sluggish, even overclocked, but didn't really bother me.

I bought the Truimph on Monday after Black Friday, rooted, removed bloat ware, that's it so far. I have no real issues with the phone.
I have been considering loading one of the CM7 ROM's, but haven't yet.

I think alot of the first Triumph's out had problems, but most of the later one's seem to run pretty well, without the major issues, GPS, etc.

That is good to hear it's a shame they had issues at launch. I really love the very basic black box form factor. With all the chrome, and sports stripes on some phones, I think it's a distinct and elegant design.

Yeah, the GPS is a software issue. There are fixes out there floating around for it. Battery life is probably improved with the new ROM.

My OpV ran rock solid right out of the box. No issues at all. The driving force behind rooting my phone was advertisements in apps. Id rather dig both my eyes out with a plastic fork that see one single ad, so I rooted and installed a host file that blocks the ads.

Adding a custom rom was totally the rooting communities fault. They enticed me with cookies. Who in their right mind can turn down a cookie?

The MT is really a $240 phone nowadays anyway (Amazon & ebay have real market prices, not just MSRP), the quality may have increased since launch. One of the major problems was VM sending refurbished phones that were still broken, bad move on their part, it left the impression there were really a lot more bad phones out there.

All phones have a few problems here & there, but when someone reports receiving multiple bad phones from VM, it multiplies that perception 1000x. VM messed up, Motorola messed up. Hopefully they've learned their lessons.

I see that Target has stopped offering the Triumph now.

I wouldn't be surprised if VM racked up a lot of returns from that amateurish booboo. Returns that result from this kind of boo-boo are a huge no-no and only rack up more costs on a per phone basis.

I couldn't have said it better... We all (supposedly) learn from our own mistakes..:)

but... oh wait... VM and Motorola are corporations! not people!... Well, the government looks at them as people anyway.. so what am I talking about??:p:rolleyes:

So, from the above, can you help guide my dreams back to VM reality?

I still think they should offer the black or LG Marqee, (it seems like I am beating a dead horse at this point, but I am still very interested in that phone)

Or a Motorola Triumph with 2.3

I think a reasonable samsung phone would be the exhibit II or the Conquer(I think they could offer one between 200 and 250)

A galaxy S would be nice also (I'm thinking around 300 to 350?)

I would love a nice dual core phone, but I suspect that might have to wait until next year or second quarter of this year. I would love to be wrong on this, but it seems Sprint really does not like to push the envelope much with VM. I feel like they are positioning VM below boost. We would be better served if they just rolled them together and offered the range of plans on one consolidated carrier, and gave us a better selection of phones. Wouldn't it also be cheaper than operating two separate carriers (MVNOS whatever) as well?

It's crazy that they mention VM and T-Mobile in that story you linked. I was thinking again about switching to t-mobile If VM does not get something nice for Feb. They actually have some very reasonable plans, if you buy your own phone. Not quite as cheap as VM, but they do offer 4g. I think they may offer slightly better coverage in my area as well, lets hope that lights a fire under VM and they get some compelling phones that can compete a bit more.

I'm in the same boat. VERY tempted, but still on the fence for two reasons:

    1. Waiting until June when my phone's almost 2 years old
    2. Not completely certain about how good GrooveIP will work to allow me to bypass T-Mobile's 100-minute limit.

I have read conflicting reports about grooveip. The concept is sound, but I would probably step up to the bigger plan. It's a little harder for me because I am in the 25 a month plan. If they force me to start paying the 35 I will jump ship for sure. Going from 35.00 for 300 minutes to 49.00 for unlimited plus 4g is an easier sell for me I guess. Also I carry line for me and a line for my spouse, so actually the two line plan with 1000 minutes would cost only 10 more a month. That is very easy to digest.

So, VM I am sure you have some folks that troll these boards... get it together and get us some nice phones! We want to keep doing business with you, but you guys have to meet us half way.

    OK I'm Kinda done.
I just saw the post about the LG Marqee (optimus black) going to Boost.

280.00 for the phone is reasonable... only if the plan is cheap.I dont think I want to drop 300 bones for a 3g phone, and then gonna drop 55 a month for service on boost. The tmobile plans pretty much match that price and offer 4g on a better selection of phones. I'm a little disappointed that boost went official with announcing the LG and we have not heard anything concrete regarding VM getting it, or anything similar.

Goes to show there's now more and more differentiation between Sprint/BM/VM and T-Mobile. If Sprint doesn't act quickly, T-Mobile's value proposition only improves even more.

Not something to be excited about.

I'm going to hold out until February and see if Virgin has anything up it's sleeve. It's really a shame to see another no contract carrier "get it" ! I really thought we would have heard something even semi official from Virgin by now. The new year is young and we will see what February brings. I too might have to jump ship and maybe even look into tMobile or Boost ...

I'd see if they have a twitter of FB account. Message them and see if we can at least get a "hint" for new plans.

Welps, off to work on my paper.

Well more competition in from other "value" plan providers is a good thing in the long run. I just find it very frustrating that VM has not done more to get in front of this. Many of us have been asking for newer better phones, and they just ignore us it seems. There are many folks who do not mind dropping 200 to 300 bucks on a nice phone if we can use a cheap plan. I just don't really think boost or virgin is worth 55.00 a month. Not for the spotty 3g speeds I seem to get with VM. The service is OK, but it is not class leading in any way. I have two phones with VM so the The 49.00 a month plan from T-Mobile is a much better option IMO.

They have FB. I posted, "What kind of phones can we expect in the near future? I would like to see some more high end like Samsung Nexus, Note etc."

VM replied, "Virgin Mobile USA We have yet to obtain information regarding this request. Please continue to check back here with us for future updates regarding new handset being released."

The last pulse survey I did suggested they are working on a $400-$500 phone with some kind of payment plan for it.
