Haven't chatted with the gang since the pre-release thread. Just wanted to drop in and say hello, and I'm going to bed. I see the night crew will keep things lively as always!

i spent half of today reading as much as i could about rooting and flashing the gnex and after reading different forums with different approaches I found the easiest one is using the GN Toolkit here: [GN TOOLKIT V2.2] Unlock, Root, CWM + Flash Your 1ST Galaxy Nexus Rom For Newbs [LTE] - xda-developers

it's really easy for a noob like myself to follow -

run exe file to install drivers,
connect the phone in recovery mode and select "unlock" from the gn toolkit,
reboot (there's an option in the toolkit to run clockwork recovery, which has an option to reboot; this reboot takes about 5 mins),
copy zipped rom onto internal storage of phone,
select clockwork recovery from gn toolkit,
    select flash from zip....

and that's it, unlocked, rooted and rommed.

way way easier than any of the other methods i read about. just throwing it out there for any other noobs like myself that are looking at rooting and thinking it's overwhelming.

FWIW, I just did this yesterday and it worked perfectly.

What may have helped was that once I had the new phone, I first unlocked, rooted and installed CWM. Next I made a backup of the existing phone which set up all the necessary directories and links for backup sets. I then checked to make sure my backup from the previous phone had the same files and directory structure as the new backup before copying it to the same parent directory.

After that, ROM Manager had no problem seeing the old backup and restored it to all it's wonderful glory, apps, settings and all. This might just be one of the best things about rooting! :D

So the nandroid is a visible file? Where is it kept on the phone? I'd like to double check and make sure I have one.

EDIT: By the way, for those interested, I pinged Diztronic again last night and received a response almost immediately, despite the fact that it was nearly midnight. Clay and I emailed back and forth until past 1 AM, and my case will be put in the mail on Tuesday when USPS begins operating again. :)

Maybe I'm doin' it wrong, but it seems to me my standard battery lasts much longer than the extended battery. I've done some calibration and stats wiping with clockwork mod, to no apparent effect. I read about one mod that it somehow didn't include the extended battery info, but I have no idea just what that could mean.

Frankly, the whole android battery management thing is a bit too opaque to me. Any thoughts on why my extended battery might not be lasting as long?

I'm doing a test today to see how long my ext battery will last. I have wi-fi on and Juice Defender on Balanced. Let's see how far I can go without charging...

I saw this once with mine. The battery had been in there overnight. I reseated the battery and it changed to red. It took a while to turn green. I assumed the battery had not been making good contact and hadn't fully charged. I have never seen it again.
I change out to the charged battery every morning. This is the best accessory. I am so glad I got it. I never carry a cord with me or search for an outlet. However, do not try to connect to the computer through the y-connector. The GNex will charge that way but my computer does not recognize it as a drive.:)

I saw the same thing until I went to a custom ROM/kernel. I would only get 5-6 hours out of the extended battery on stock but now, with GummyNex (uses Fab's kernel), I see anywhere between 12-15 hours depending on usage.

It makes me wonder if the stock 4.02 kernel doesn't play nice with the extended battery.

Just finished this test myself minus the Juicer & was on 4G for a few hours. I got tired of it so just took the SS at 28% :p This is on stock battery I have the ext battery, but haven't used it yet. This is light usage, half hour phone calls, ~2 hrs screen on time, texting emailing yadda...

Maybe haven't given it enough time to properly report and calibrate in the phone? idk how long have you tried the ext battery in the phone?

Yes it is visible via PC or within a program like root explorer or file explorer. It is located in the clockworkmod/backups folder and begins with the date, then is followed by random numbers.

Thx for the info on the case I'm trying one should be here by week end!

Hey everyone, hope your holidays were great. Been so busy playing with my kids, the phone stuff got put on the back burner for a week or so. Talked my mother in law into an android phone, she gets it tomorrow. Unfortunately my sister, her husband, and my dad all got iphones over the holiday. Win some you lose some I guess. I did enjoy owning Siri with Google voice commands...

    Kudos to Verizon! :D

We usually have nothing but bad to say about Big Red, but I wanted to give a big public THANK YOU to my local corporate store.

My charging cable went out! You know, the little 4-footer that came with the Nexus. Just died and wouldn't charge the phone anymore. Well, Verizon hooked me up. They pulled a wall charger with a NINE FOOT cable - retail price $29.99 - and GAVE it to me!

SO now I have more cable than I know what to do with to charge my phone at night. :)

    Oh BTW:

My test is turning into a success... after 4 hours off the charger with moderate use (a phone call, light surfing and constant music streaming to my BT headset) my extended battery is STILL at 75%.

That's with wi-fi on and Juice Defender set to "Balanced". Best battery life I've seen in 2 weeks!

Good afternoon, fellow Galaxy Nexaholics! I hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year's celebration. Yesterday was my airplane club's "Chilly Chili" fly which is traditionally held on New Year's Day. We fly no matter what the weather... cold, rain, sunshine, snow, etc., doesn't matter. Yesterday the temperature was nice, around 65 degrees but it was windy... 15 MPH with gusts to 25. Did we fly? Yup! :D We had good food, fun, flying, and fellowship.

I put a couple of flights on my new Eurocopter AS-550 heli. I'm getting more comfortable with it and it looks sooooo good in the air. For those that are interested, I thought I'd post a video of the maiden flight a few weeks ago. Apologies about the video quality; the autofocus on my camera's video mode cannot be turned off and the autofocus "hunts" unless the object being filmed is dead-center. Enjoy!
