Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

I think fragmentation and differentiation are often confused. As long as apps are compatible accross versions (and I think for the most part they are since 2.2) and skins (I believe this was take care of in ICS) it isn't a problem. Hardware obsolescence aside, as long as devs are able to generally able to write an app once, install in a turdload of devices, I don't see it as being a problem.
Also, places like AF here will always help people adjust:D

But its all good. Our conversations go all the over the place. I have learned stuff from all of you and like having somewhere to come that I can just blurt out what I'm thinking.

Yeah, but it was my understanding that the whole selling point of ICS was to bring all devices under a single OS version so devs wouldn't have to work on so many compatibility issues. Now here comes another tablet version of Android. Ah well

Just checking in to let Copacetic and Lucky Armpit (et al) know that I updated the "mic dropping out" thread with my calls to tech support tonight. Nothing we didn't already know (VZW is still clueless) but another acknowledgment that there IS an issue. I'm currently trying to convince myself that GB and Sense 3.5 aren't that bad. :(

Are they willing to send you another phone. I truly think there was a bad batch because not everyone is having the problem.

I thought that what they did was make some of the UI stuff mandatory in ICSD so that the skins wouldn't affect apps. I could be wrong as I am not a dev and I assume this would carry foreward into 5.0. Also, ICS was the merger of 2.x and 3.x so I would assume that even if 5.x was more for tablets, we would still be on one codebase, thus limiting fragmentation.

Is it sad that my "lunch break" is taken up by catching up on this thread?
Anyway, we had an hour power outage here at the restaurant. Fun times! Power came back on and then boom! line of people. Never a break. Anyway, looks like it's been a fun day for everyone. If anyone is looking for a recipe, don't ask me, I don't use any! Ideas and ingredients are all I need...

    Not sad at all.

I can't believe it's been two months l since I've gotten my Gnex. I don't know about the rest of you, but all the delays back in October and November sure tested my patience and resolve. I was sorely tempted to get a rezound, but all of you from the prerelease thread kept me strong.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU! Not only is this the best phone ever, but I went lurking over to the rezound forums and I'm REALLY happy I waited.

Once again, thank you my friends.

Yes, patience and resolve were sorely tested however at this point I can't say I'd change any of it. That thread, combined with this one, has brought me far more than I ever expected. I have made friends (one of which sent me those flowers on Valentine's Day), learned I really like Star Wars, discovered that I really did have a nerd struggling to get out and an awesome phone. So yeah, 2 months afterwards I may be happier than ever

Anyone have any idea why my gnex just signed me out of my Google account? Phone was sitting here doing nothing and when I checked the time it told me "sign in error" touch to sign into account. Earlier today I checked my gmail no problems.

Change any of it? OMG, although the phone itself is great, I have to admit the best thing about it may be the prerelease and watering hole threads and the friends I've made!

Hello all, sorry that I haven't been around for a few days, I seem to have come down with a rather nasty cold. :(
Yum. Love brinner. For Valentine's Day, my lady made me banana peanut butter chip pancakes with Nutella spread on them, and bacon on the side. :D

And I agree BB's and Ron this forum, then the phone trailing right behind it, has been exceptional in many ways!

Nyxie had a spasm tonight. She decided to have a random reboot while I was in the middle of a phone call.

Eek! Is she ok? Poor little thing bless her heart ;)

I had more random reboots on my Inc (which I think is a stellar little phone) in one day than I've had on the GN since rooting and unlocking 7 weeks ago.

She seems to be ok. It was strange that I wasn't using her hard and she did it.

You're making it too easy on us, but I won't go there! :p
To piggy back Cap't Ron, I have to agree. While my Bionic was leaps and bounds above my OG Droid, it still doesn't hold a candle to the Nexy. It is just about as fast but the screen, ICS and smoothness of the Nex is so refreshing. I think Goog knocked it out of the park with this version of Android. Are there problems? Of course! But I think they're headed in the right direction.
Honeycomb was okay (used it on our 10.1 before it was TWiz'd) but still buggy.
Really excited to see what Jelly Bean brings. And, if the rumor of dual booting Chrome OS is true, I'm a little worried. I love the idea of Chrome OS (I use our computers for nothing else than web browsing), but I don't see the need for this if the Chrome Browser/Gapps are included in Android.

Edit: Just want to say a quick congrats to Pupkact on going gold!

Good Morning everyone! Hamburgers were delicious last night, although my wife ate mine. Oh well.

So regarding the fragmentation article by BGR. First, its BGR. Second, do we remember the Phandroid article about it not too long ago? Clearly showed that iOS is also fragmented, and has more app crashes to boot. The iFan tech media has propogated the story that Android is not as good as iOS because of fragmentation, and it is a distraction from an honest comparison. So anytime you see a story on the fragmentation of android, recognize it as the pro-apple propaganda that it is.

They offered a refurb Nexus. Having already tried two handsets, I'm not sure if a 3rd would be the miracle cure.

I want to believe that it's either a network or account-based issue which could be fixed by Verizon/Samsung. My concern isn't that it can't be fixed so much as whether it will be fixed and more importantly, when.

Morning all! Got my Otterbox Commuter case and pogo pins that I ordered in the mail yesterday and went to work. Successfully drilled 2 holes in the side of the Commuter case the perfect size for the pogo pins and I think they are almost dead center over the contacts on the phone. I think by the time I add the inductive charging circuit to the case and put my normal battery in instead of the extended battery, it will be a perfect fit.

Also got Android SDK up and running with Eclipse plug-in and an Android virtual device set up as well. Productive night overall.

You mean BGR can be WRONG sometimes??? :p

Okay, fair enough evaluation. Not that I care one way or another... just leave my Ginny the way she is and I'll be a happy camper! I don't need no stinkin' Jelly Bean...
