It seems to me that phones with built-in DLNA are using an OEM version of iMediaShare. Could be wrong, but that's how it's looked to me.

Think I started using it in 2010 or something, great app.

DLNA is essentially a file sharing and control protocol. Your tv has the client, your phone needs the server.

If you go through your home router with both tv and phone on the same subnet, you should be all set.

Am I understanding correctly that I need to connect the tv to the router with an ethernet cable, not just wifi?

I don't think so. I have my blue ray connected through WiFi (tv doesn't connect but I assume it works the same). I just haven't really tried to make it work yet.

    No, wifi is fine.

Your home router will generally put everything on the same subnet so that all devices get an IP address like 192.168.0.xxx - if those first three numbers are the same for the phone and tv, it won't matter how you're connected (normal assumption about good home wifi signals and bandwidth apply).

See, EarlyMon does this to me all the time. I answer a post, and he follows up with a technical answer that makes my answer look noobish (which in most cases it is). That's why I try to read all of his posts, some day I'll look smarter on a thread than he does.:D:D:D:D

Skifta is great but it's very finicky. I find that half the time it won't recognize the TV until I reboot the router... then it works fine

I really think that how your posts look compared to mine is the last thing anyone really cares about. ;)

I was off looking up what sort of wifi operations your BD player might support!! :D

I thoroughly enjoy your posts. Besides, check the timestamps, it's not like I tried to do that. :D

More likely a minor port confusion in the router than the app, imo.

Good point though - my router's firewall has a checkbox to allow various home media, so if DLNA is failing outright when things are set up properly, maybe turn off router firewall for just a few minutes while diagnosing.

It's gonna be hard to sound smarter than Early, at least when it comes to electronics. Now, the mating habits of the blue tailed Skink, perhaps you could win there, if you read up on wikipedia just in case someone ever asks about it ;)

I think that we established in the epic thread that secretly I'm a Cub Scout with crazy wikipedia skills. :D ;)

Anyway, let's go with experienced over smarter. (Did I mention that WifelyMon is known to lurk here from time to time? :D)

Thanks guys, I am going to give this a try as soon as I can gain control over the tv again. Lol, hopefully this evening. I asked about the cable as in the tv manual under connecting to a dlna, it talks about connecting to the home network server using an Ethernet cable,Yet the tv is already connected to the network via wifi and streams netflix great.

Yeah, I know that. It's just that probably a couple of dozen times I've given an answer and post at the same time as EM. I coulda said ninja'd except EM's answer was way more in depth than mine.

Crazy! I feel like I have done/learned so much about Android/Linux in these 3 months than I did in the previous 1.5yrs before I owned the Nexus!

Big thanks to AF, Mods, Guides, and Users like you who have helped me along the way!

    Okay.

    Red Alert!

I just tried to reply to BB's reply to my post in the Dinc Lounge and Tapatalk toast messaged me that the forum had been closed!

    Mods?

Either Tapatalk or our server glitched, maybe Tapatalk. No mod record in the database exists that we touched it, and I just successfully posted there from my mobile browser.

    Maybe give it another shot?

If you think to and it happens again, best to hit the report button or PM one of us. Luckily I was in the neighborhood.

I'll monitor that thread for now. :)

Hey! :) I have been meaning to write you! :)

The desert is warming up. After a nice snow in December, we've had almost none since, not good for us - spells another drought. :(

    How's by you?

    I bet you're good to go. :)

Yes way. WifelyMon digs Android. ;)

Looks like I missed all the "significant other" chatter. Congrats to those of you that have found some one :)

Wish I could share my story, but I don't have one :( I guess I must be ugly or something because women don't even socialize with me at work. But I am sure no one wants to hear me wine about that so...

    Morning everyone!
As someone who doesn't have cable, I rely on Hulu for a lot of shows. Just noticed they increased the screen size on my laptop, awesome! Don't know if it's for all shows, but it's a nice touch.
Wife is heading out of town this weekend so I get the place to myself. I think I might actually get the kegerator up and running again (I have 5 beers still in fermenters that are well over a year old), and put them on tap.
Have a great Friday everyone, looks like fantastic weather here.

And oh lord, they're at all the Apple stores this morning on the local news for the "new" iPad release. The humanity!

I am spared the Apple obsession here, because A. we don't have an apple store within 100 miles, and 2. Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day, the biggest holiday of the year in Savannah. Some estimates are we will have the biggest parade in the world this year, surpassing New York City. Of course this is just due to participant count, not float size or complexity... Plus 1 million people in town to get hung over on green beer and Irish Whiskey. Good Morning Everyone!
