As a woman, I answer this question with the loudes "HELL TO THE YES I'M GOING TO SEE IT" I can muster. My husband is fine with it - he's secure enough to know that, eye candy aside, I would choose him over any of the men in that movie any day and twice on Sunday. But I have to admit...seeing Joe Manganiello dancing around scantily clad on a large screen does make me tingle a bit.
Would I care if he went to a movie with hot women? Absolutely not. It's normal, healthy male behavior. Plus, I honestly think when SO's vehemently oppose things like that, or become jealous of friendships with the opposite sex, that sense of foreboding often leads to some of the things that rip couples apart. Just my $.02.
We've always had separate accounts, too. In fact, we don't have a joint account at all, though we are both "authorized users" on each other's accounts. He pays some bills, I pay others, and at the end of the month, I write him a check for the difference (since he pays the big one - the mortgage). The only thing in both of our names is the house.
ZACTLY. The way we do it would drive some people crazy. In fact, it would probably drive most people crazy. But for us, it works. We've never had an argument about money.
We also have accounts in different banks. When we got married, our mortgage, one of our car loans, and our credit card were all with bank of america, so we started our joint checking there, even though the closest branch to our house is 40 miles away. Of course, since then, our mortgage got sold to some no-name company, traded the car in and used dealer financing, since it beat bofa, and have closed the credit card. We would switch, but I love their Portfolio service, I don't want to lose all that history. Our savings account is in a local bank, which also allows for quick emergency cash if needed.
Thanks for the advice Anti. One of the things I love about USAA is you can use any ATM, pay the fee but get reimbursed at the end of the month. I believe it may still be 3x a month limit, but still enough for me. I can scan checks at home to deposit them (they have no physical banks), and with cash (generally gifts), I just give to my wife to deposit locally. I believe USAAs Android app also lets you scan with your phone to deposit. Haven't tried it myself but have one at home I may give a shot this afternoon!
Different strokes Friendships of the opposite sex often lead to more than that. Better to cut it off before it gets started IMO. Like I said, different strokes. You should know yourself if you are able to appropriately handle a friendship of the opposite sex and also know if your spouse would be ok with it. If you can handle it and it doesn't bother the spouse, then by all means go ahead. However, some people can't appropriately handle those friendships without being tempted and some spouses have trust issues due to things like that biting them in the past.
Kinda like alcoholics. If you never take a sip of alcohol, you'll never be an alcoholic. If you never develop friendships with the opposite sex, you're less likely to cross any lines. That being said, I took a sip of alcohol and I'm not an alcoholic. I don't feel comfortable with my ability to not cross any lines that would be inappropriate with a female friend so I don't have close female friends. Add to that my wife (and myself) being the jealous type, so we just don't add any fuel to the fire so to speak.
USAA and NFCU have both been VERY good to us over the years. Wouldn't have anything else.
Oooh, just noticed fancy new quote, multiquote, and quick reply buttons.
Had them for a second and now don't. Site work in progress?
It's good that you know yourself well enough to know that - and are honest enough with yourself to admit it - and so you avoid putting yourself in that situation. That said, I can't imagine not having close guy friends. Some of my closest friends are guys...I've just always gotten along better with them than women. Some of them are gay though, so do they count as GIRLfriends or GUYfriends????
I'd assume that is what's going on. Theyre changing back and forth for me.
Haha, I think they would still be guy friends in my eyes. I know I would never cross any physical lines, but emotional lines are more imporant to my wife. We've talked about that and she would be more damaged by emotional cheating than physical. Those are just harder boundaries to see. I still have friends that are girls, it's just they are usually better friends with my wife or we only rarely e-mail/facebook to catch up because they are friends from college.
This makes sense to me.
And if it works then go for it. I think this way would probably drive me a bit nutty.
Woot! Confirmed for trip to Mexico in a couple weeks! So excited, never been.
It's a resort on the Pacific side, all inclusive (yeah, we're both boozers and need it ).
Even with plane tickets, probably cheaper than it would to go to the beaches in Delaware. And don't tell me about the Mexico City airport shootings, I already know.
Woohoooo!!! I hope you enjoy it!!!!
I applaud both you and your wife for recognizing those attributes about yourselves. Being honest makes for a MUCH healthier relationship. Me? I've always had more female friends than male, and my wife is the exact same way (more male friends than female). We both know that we're harmless and since we're not the jealous type, there's never any reason for concern at all. She's been to the movies with a mutual male friend by herself, and I've hung out with a mutual female friend by myself. The though of something untoward happening never once entered either one of our minds. That's just how we're wired. I'm like dawnierae - I couldn't imagine not having close female friends.
New Edit, Quote and Report buttons are showing just fine for me. Anyone else?
Edit: and now they all are.
Yup, working fine for me too. Very cool.
Has anyone traveled to Mexico? We're going to Mazatlan. Looks like a resort city of sorts. Probably will just lounge at the pool and beach, but if you have any "must haves" let us know!
I've been twice, both times at all inclusive resort on the Yucatan. I never left the resort. I loaded up my reader with books and set by the pool or the beach and read and relaxed. Also, noon time is all day there
Sounds like just what I need.
I'm sure my fingers will twitch about not getting on AF, but hopefully I'll get by.
I've been once, to the Yucatan like Unforgiven. We stayed at an excellent resort, but also took awesome day trips to Chichen Itza and Tulum. While you'll be pretty far from any of those places, I'd highly recommend looking to see if any ruins or other ancient sites are near Mazatlan and checking them out.
So I thought I'd ask my favorite Android peeps this question to see if you guys and gals can help:
I've been very happy with Google Play Music on my Galaxy Nexus. I've been using it so much that I haven't turned on my iSheep Touch in months. I like keeping all of my music stored on the phone's internal memory, and since VZW customers will be forced to move to a shared data plan sooner or later, it seemed like a good idea. When I got my Razr Maxx, I knew it only had 16GB of internal storage so I went ahead and ordered a 16GB SD card for it.
What I didn't know was that Google Play Music saves offline music to the internal storage of a phone, usually called sdcard or something similar. And since the internal memory on the Razr is carved up into two 8GB "partitions" (8GB is useable for whatever and the other 8GB is reserved for the OS, apps, etc.), and since 8GB ain't much space, I had to find a way to get my music to the external SD card.
I paid for an app called Offline Music Importer that seems to have done a great job of moving all my downloaded music to the external SD card and also telling Google Play Music where it is. The problem is that the app lists all of my music twice... the online/cloud copy and the local copy. I have emailed the app dev but haven't received a response so far.
All of that is to ask: who listens to music on their Android phone, and if so, what app do you use? I downloaded Winamp today and didn't really care for the interface. It was really, really laggy on my Razr but that could change once I get ICS. If I don't get any help from the app dev, I'm gonna need to find a new music app. Suggestions? Thanks!!
I know this vid has gone viral, but for anyone who hasn't seen it, this is the best dad ever!
