Morning dread, same here, the hottest days of the year so far for us... Yesterday was nice, 80 for the high thanks to TS Debby, and this morning was only 63, very cool for late June. It was so nice that I tried to go running for the second day in a row to take advantage of the cool evening. Big Mistake. They don't tell you to allow a day for recovery for nothing :p.

Happy Hump Day everyone, and Happy Google I|O day!

Morning all! Getting ready to head back to NC after a week of visiting family. I have to say, I had either great or non-existent coverage in Maryland and stellar coverage everywhere in Virginia beach ( like strong 4 g everywhere). However, I had two forced closes yesterday and never had those before. Kinda interesting to me. BB, I don't know much about the cool pics either, but I would also try the automatic mode with adjustments to the ISO if needed (if it lets you do that). On another photography note, hubby gave me the Canon 1.4 prime 50 for my birthday ......Sweet lens, perfect copy and awesome flexibility for some very creative shots. The 1.2 it's just too pricey for the extra stops and The 1.8, while exceptionally well priced and also an amazing lens, seemed less solid.

Yup, sure do. I love me some Gordon Ramsay. Although I think his new hotel show is a bit much. Last night was a pretty good episode. SPOILER ALERT IN HIDDEN TEXT
I was SO GLAD to see Ryan go home on Monday night. He's an arrogant jerk, which I'm sure is exactly how the producers wanted to spin it. I mean, he gave a live crab to Christine, for crying out loud! Who gives a live crab to a blind girl?! I'm sure she doesn't want any special treatment, but that was just low.

Good morning everyone! My Galaxy Nexus officially goes back today. It's bittersweet, because I'll miss the device but my Razr Maxx has been so rock solid I don't think I'll miss it for long. Going to visit remote locations today, and then seeing someone who is going to help me move my 401k from my old employer.

I got up early again and rode 7 miles! Two days in a row, woohoo.

@BabyBlues, something I found that helps is to turn off the picture preview. Most point-n-shoot cameras will take a shot, save the picture, show the user a preview for a few seconds, then goes back to shooting mode. I find it helpful on my point-n-shoot (Fuji FinePix S200) to disable the picture preview. Makes shooting multiple shots much faster.

BB, the best advice I can give you is to really familiarize yourself with the camera modes you have access to and learn the basics of shooting. Also know your general lighting conditions before you go anywhere you might take pictures. How many Megapixels is the camera? Do you have access to aperture priority mode (commonly labeled A or Av)?

+1 on that as well. Most cameras will turn off the preview when you go to press the shutter button again, but that does take more fractional seconds than just having it not show up in the first place.

Between my old investing company through work and ING I was able to move my 401K so easily it was almost funny.

Thanks - the preview is turned off. Does help some.

Its a 12MP camera. And I don't see anywhere with an A or AV.

Most point and shoots don't have aperture priority, it was worth a shot though. If you don't mind sacrificing some megapixels, turn the picture size down a bit. A 5-8MP photo will easily make a high quality 8x10. I have a 20x30 print I shot at 8MP. If you're shooting in that 5-8 range, the camera takes less time to process and write it to storage.

Also, if you'd get rid of that crappy Nikon and get a real camera (Canon) it might work better too. Just kidding of course. :D

Good morning and happy Google I/O day! Cannot wait for this keynote.

BTW the best commute to work is the one between your bed and your desk at home. Working from home rocks and it just happens to fall on the same day as the keynote being live streamed on Youtube, YES!

Forecast for my area :( The slightly good news is that it's so dry here from the lack of rain that there's no relative humidity to speak of. It starts the morning around 60% and that's normally what it would be throughout the day here, but by mid-day it's down to 25-30%. But that's also the horrible news....we have only had 1" of rain since the beginning of June. Even May was below average for rainfall here. We're about 8" of rain off of normal for the past 2 months.

Ha! The camera was a gift and I rarely use a real one. (And my other point and shoot was a Canon and it ALMOST got thrown out a window - that was after a photographer gave me tips for it) But I will definitely drop it down on the MP and see if that helps too.

    Thanks for all the tips!

Haha! I hate those pocket point and shoots with a passion. I want to throw my wife's out the window every time she hands it to me to use. I'm a Canon person, but Nikon makes great stuff too. :) But me and pocket sized point and shoots do not get along, lol.

You'll probably want to try and take a few lower res shots first and see how they look on your computer and see if it helps with the shot times before you shoot your whole trip like that :) I would hate for you to just take my word for it and come back with crappy pics because of it. It shouldn't noticeably affect the quality, but ya never know :)

So my data speed is abysmal again today. Pandora won't even stream correctly, and tapatalk is useless. I WISH I GOT 4G AT MY DESK.

    sigh. Rant over.

If I could justify the cost of a decent non point and shoot I would in a heartbeat but I just don't use it enough. And I plan on taking the camera with me in the next two days and playing to see what settings work best.

I'm watching it off the internet and I did notice the Au version. I was going to watch that after I get caught up, on episode 6 right now.

Is that spoiler for Masterchef or the Hotel? I forgot about his hotel show. I'm sure I can find it somewhere and I need to catch up on Hells Kitchen.

I'm rooting for the underdog...the blind girl.

I can't watch the YouTube live stream. Anyone know if there is a liveblog?

By the way, I can't wait for this to start.:bebored:

    So... morning all :)

Still having thoughts on the nexus and the whole situation with said device. Using the thing inside is pretty flawless. Battery is good, even when out in about since I am not a super heavy user on it, unless I an doing research on something or following a storm, like I was doing last night when it decided to act up a bit.

I spent a bit last night crawling around the forums (yikes, I left the comfort of the lounge! :)) and looked into the Rezound, Note, S3, One X.

And thinking about the Razr Maxx again.

The Rezound looks like an incredible amount of stuff can be done with it, once you do the "wire trick" and get S-off. The One X can have its boot loader unlocked with some clever hex editing, provided its the old firmware, I suspect the new handsets will have newer firmware so... The limited storage on the thing kind of irks me. The note, well one in the house already. The Maxx, can't stay on the wifi network for some reason, its a common problem listed in the Maxx sub boards. Plus an HD version may be out "soon"

ATT would require the purchase of a network extender (concrete house) to use the thing downstairs. And yes, I do suspect this is why I have some of the problems I do. But I can see other patterns that don't jive with the house with other devices. My Droid X has worked flawless.

The S3, yeah I am gun-shy on this one.

I really wished that Verizon had the note or a similar device. 7" tab too big.

Once again, Sorry about yelping and harping on the issue with my Nexus. Just frustrating when the phone can't keep up with me sometimes.

If you want to see something really inspiring then watch Masterchef. There is lady on there by the name of Christine and she is blind.

In episode 5 Gordon gave her a confidence building peep talk because she had no idea if the apple pie she made looked good and she knocked it out of the park. She started crying and I had a couple tears myself. And now in episode 6 she was given a live crab by Ryan. His thought was she would not be able to work with it being blind. She proved him wrong AND the judges made him taste it. AND SHE WON THAT COOKING CHALLENGE! SO AMAZING :)

@BabyBlues - The problem is that my 401k is still with RBC. I thought it would be good to move it somewhere since I can't participate in my company's 401k until I've been here a year. That doesn't happen until March 2013. I can't just see it sit there for a year and not do anything. Plus, I want to get it into something more stable. It lost almost $4000 in the few weeks since I printed the last statement. My wife's 401k was supposed to be transferred from RBC to PNC after the merger but it's still sitting there. So she wants to do something with it as well since PNC is dragging their feet.

@Halon - The spoiler warning was for Monday's (6/25) MasterChef show. Since DVRs have become very popular, I didn't want to ruin the outcome for someone that might not have watched it yet. :) Nothing to do with the Hotels show.

Yes, Christine is my favorite, simply because she has not let her disability slow her down one bit. Very inspirational. I'm rooting for her!
