Galaxy Player 5 - won't charge anymore...Support

    Next month would have been a full year of me owning my GP5, which doesn't seem long enough for it to suddenly malfunction. I haven't done anything out of the ordinary with it and I haven't dropped it either. Ever since I bought my GS3 in September, I started using my GP5 as an exclusive MP3 player and it had been typically getting me a couple days of usage in between charges (wish I could say the same for my GS3...). Then out of the blue, I plug it in last night and wake up the next morning to find that it DIDN'T CHARGE AT ALL. It doesn't register that its plugged in with any USB cord I try (I have a bunch), but it does turn itself back on when I plug it in while powered off. I don't understand what could have possibly happened to it, and I have no warranty because I bought it off of eBay.

    It was last on 60% since I turned it off, so obviously I only have so much time to migrate my entire music collection (which I've mostly already done through dropbox) and reconstruct my many lengthy playlists before I can never use it again... (~_~)

    Its a shame, because the GP5 speaker is LEAGUES better than my GS3 speaker, which seems kinda backwards to me.

    A similar thing happened to me. Completely drained battery. Called Tech Support, after a few checks, they had me send it in for repair. Emailed me a UPS label. Wrapped it around original box (still had it), sent it off. About 3 weeks later got it back. Repair was a newly soldered (replaced?) USB connector. Had never abused this connection, so think it is a weak link? No charge for shipping to/from Samsung nor for the repair. However, when returned, had to re-install factory software and re-root. No loss, really, had kept everything backed up and removed my SD card before sending it to them. Note my unit was only 4 months old. Hope this doesn't happen again before the warranty expires, but....

    When you bought it did you register it on Samsung's site?
    I know you mentioned you got it off eBay....did you buy it new or used.
    You can probably still contact Samsung for a warranty repair/replacement.
    Wouldn't hurt to try.

    What you describe sounds like the same thing that happened to Dragoon; your USB connector dislodged from the main board.
    That's common with these big devices using tiny miscro slots.

    I bought it used, so I figured it was an "at my own risk" kinda thing and didn't consider the possibility of a valid warranty.

    Although, after leaving it off for a full week, it seems to have "fixed" itself because it is back to charging like normal. Weird...

    So glad it's working again for you.
    I forgot the same thing happened to mine but I thought it was from messing around with it (rooting).
    Since I thought I broke it, I left it on the charger and didn't think no more about it for about 2 hrs and when I picked it back up it was on like nothing happened.

    Well, I've got the device back again, but now I seem to have lost the earphone jack... lol
