Hello thanks for reading and hope you can help.

Firstly is there an indicator to say when you have messages both voicemail or text?

Secondly - I think I know the answer to this. I can't get the alarm clock to work if the phone has been switched off at night. Does this mean that I have to leave the phone on in order for the alarm to work?

Can you set the phone to answer automatically?

Thanks to anybody who answers my questions.

    Amy

Firstly I'm not sure what you mean but there is an app called Visual Voicemail
    Visual voicemail
Was it something like that you were thinking of?

Secondly if you switch your phone off it IS completely off... and your alarm will NOT ring in the morning... there is tho some alarm apps that have dimmed screen mode and/or will still ring if screen is off (and phone is on) but why do you turn it off at night?

answer automatically!? Like when you are driving a car... Is this what you are looking for

When you get a SMS or if someone has left you voice mail it shows in the pull down notification bar at the top of the screen. If it's a SMS it's a yellow envelope, if it's email through your googlemail account it's a black and white envelope can't remember what colour it is for voicemail but that's where all notifications show up.

There is also a driving mode within the settings, on mine it is settings>voice input and output>text-to-speech settings>Driving mode, incoming calls and new noifications will be read out automatically. This may not be the same on your phone as im on Froyo 2.2 JPO but worth a look if it is what you are looking for.

Thanks both of you that helps re the auto answer and is just what I needed but in terms of voicemail and text messages etc - I can see if I check the phone that I have messages but if I'm away from the phone and somebody calls or texts I will only see that I missed a call or a text has come through if I light up the screen.

I turn my phone off at night so I don't get woken up by calls or texts as I'm a really light sleeper. I'm wondering if I leave the phone on and put it on silent, whether I can set the alarm at a particular volume which overrides the silent setting.

    Thanks

There can be basically 2 solutions to your problem-

1.) The ringer and alarm has its different volume settings. So even if you put the phone on silent you wont hear the call or message tones but alarm would sound perfectly well.

2.) You can also select "Airplane" mode while going to sleep. This basically cuts off the signal from your phone and is useful for accessing other features of phone while in plane or other areas where cellphones should normally be switched off.

Basically by activating airplane mode your phone wont recieve any call or message as there is no signal. It will also save battery for you as in anycase you dont want to be notified in night. The alarm would work perfectly in both the cases.

There's an app called noled in the market that will notify you of missed calls, emails,im and texts by lighting up little icons on your screen. Very nice and free app so you can see what you have missed without lighting up your screen.
