Based on breathless reports we're seeing on Twitter and in the XDA-Developers' forums, it would appear that Samsung has just pushed out the official Android 2.2 Froyo update for its Galaxy S as promised. Our Nordic friends are the first to report seeing the build I9000 JPM update in the latest version of Samsung's Kies PC software. It's early days though, so do let your fellow i9000 owners know how it goes in the comments below. List of changes (including GPS fix) listed after the break.

Update: We've just been handed the official press release for the Andoid 2.2 Galaxy S update. Indeed, Nordic countries get it first (starting mid-October, aka, "now") before it's "gradually rolled out to other European markets, Southeast Asia, the Middle East Asia, North America, Africa and rest of the world." Hey, you can't update 5 million handsets overnight.

[Thanks, Gustav F. and Chong Shau Poh]

You can apply it manually using mini Kies (see other threads on this topic).

No reason to wait around feeling left out and sad.

From what I understand, you need to use a Windows box to do this. Is this correct? If so, I don't have a Windows machine to complete the task.

Yep, Windows only according to the documentation. Not sure if there's a Mac workaround. I guess if you can't borrow a friends Windows machine for a half hour you'll need to wait.

True iFanatics buy jailbroken iPhone's and use them on other carriers, excluding Sprint and Verizon of course. In the case of those carriers, they choose to not use cellular devices as it would lower their iFanaticism and thereby alert Apple's iPolice, who will confiscate your other Apple products due to being a traitor.

So which is it, you wanna be a traitor, or an iFanatic? You're screwed with both, mentally as well as financially, so choose wisely.

I'm thinking you need more friends. I don't mean any disrespect but where in the hell do you live that everyone around you only has a Mac? That's just strange to me. However, no worries, your OTA will come by the months end.

I would guess it's the GPS fix. Have you already received it?

The 2.2 update isn't supposed to hit NA for several weeks.

Your device has already downloaded the update, no WiFi required. I would un-root your device first...there have been many threads of people having to flash the .tar OTA file with Odin because the OTA one "bricked" their device while they were rooted, me included. Disable root, uninstall lag fix if installed, basically get your device back to as stock as possible (you can ignore other apps you've installed).

Actually, true fanatics, drive up to Canada, wait in line at the Apple Store and buy an unlocked iPhone directly from Apple... ;-)

True and would be better but i dont like to pay full price for a phone which is why i HATE having to commmit to a two year deal on one phone.

Just hope this 2.2 update gets to us by the end of the month.

Its not available on kies in NA, so could someone from the countries where it has been released possibly throw it up on the webs for us who dont have the ability to grab it?

Edit: Or is there a way to trick kies into thinking I am in those countries? =D

Sorry, but the version on kies won't just "work" with your vibrant. You need a t-mobile version our a developer hacked version.

I interpreted what this meant in two ways:
    1. It needs to be an internal T-mobile device
    2. Or it just needs to be an actual T-mobile phone

If it is option 2 then I do have a t-mobile phone so idk

The version on Kies is an International, i9000 Galaxy S release.

    T-Mobile's Galaxy S (Vibrant) is SGH-T959.

On their OpenSource site, both variants are listed seperately, and the size of the codebase is different by about 30MB or so. (2.1 releases only, so don't get your hopes up ;->)

So, either we wait for an SGH-T959 release from Samsung, or someone has to modify the i9000 version to work.

When he says you need a T-Mobile version, he's not talking about the phone. He's talking about the source code that was released for 2.2
