    Hi all

Slighly confused by the internal memory on the S2.

I thought it had around 16GB of internal memory but when I checked...setting/storage/ it shows internal memory as
    Total Space =1.97Gb
    Apps 238MB
    Available as 1.70GB

So this adds up to only around 3.9GB ????

Any ideas where the rest is.....

    Many thanks for your time

The bad news is, that your calculation is wrong:
If the total is 1.97GB and you deduct 0.238 as used by Apps, the result might be 1.7GB. That is how the figures are related.

The good news for you is, that there is a storage available which is called "internal SDCARD". Did you check the size of this virtual SDCARD? That would be the missing memory.

It is confusing, that sammy handles internal memory as SDCARD, but it works perfectly.

Internal memory is divided into sections namely

    1) Internal Storage
    2) USB Storage

The internal storage is for apps, emails data, SMS etc. The system can use it but user can not.

The USB storage is which is available to the user and is shown as a removable drive when you connect to PC.

Have a look at the USB Storage figures in the same menu. There should be several gb there.

Go to your task manager and look under storage.

    1) System storage (Non-accessible Internal phone memory for apps) 2GB
    2) USB storage (Accessible Internal phone storage for everything else) 11.5GB
    3) SD card (External microSD card if you have any)

The rest of the remaining 2GB is used by the OS. (Which brings it to about 16GB)

    Hi all

Many thanks for the informative replies.....

Quick question can I use the USB storage for apps etc....

On my old phone HTS desire it had 145Mb of internal storage and I was for ever running out of space !

Many thanks again for your time

Big games like FIFA or Gameloft will have their data files in the USB storage say 1GB worth. The executable files will be in the 2GB space. You can move part of the app files from the 2GB space to an external microSD using move2SD.

But that's the extent of what you can do without root.
