Can you use regular formatted USB Flash Drives? What file systems are supported? NTFS?

NTFS is not supported by Android by default. It can be used with root. If you have a FAT32 formatted USB stick it will be suppported without any issues.

The Nexus devices are trying to corral people into the cloud, so do not have the function by design. Samsung wants the customer to have the options for this device. They do not have preconceptions they know what is "best" for the customer.

I agree with you 100%. That is one of the things I llike about Android.

Even though I really liked nexus 7 that I bought for my nephew recently, I would not replace my Note 10.1 with it.
