Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 no longer controlls DSLRSupport

I purchased an app called DSLR controller and it was incredible. It enabled me to control my camera like a DREAM, and is in fact why I purchased this tablet. Now, the app no longer recognizes a DSLR camera is connected. I know the app still works, the cable is good and my Samsung dongle works. I've tried other apps that are specific to this tablet and my DSLR with the same results. I've also tried different cables and dongles as well. No damage has been done to the tablet so it's got to be a software or firmware issue. I even did a total wipe and factory reset. Did Samsung do something in the latest update to kill this functionality with the USB port? If so, how can I recover that? I bought this tab specifically to help in my work (as a photographer) and now it's no longer useful in that capacity. Please help!!!!

Was there an update to the app that coincides with the change in behavior?

I'm not 100% sure. I'm primarily an architectural photographer. I only use the tab in this capacity when doing portraits and I hadn't used it like this in a couple of months.

I just realized you asked about the app and not the tab- The app hasn't been changed.

It seems strange that an app could change its behavior without an update of some sort. Is the app set to automatically update? You would see this in its settings in Google Play or in the Applications Settings.

Well, I figured out the issue- Samsung pushed an update - Jellybean 4.1.1 which killed the functionality. However, 4.1.4 works so hopefully they'll patch it. Thanks guys!!!!!

Thanks for the response. I figured something had to have changed that caused the problem. As least you know the root cause now. If it's any consolation, those of us with the original Galaxy Tab 10.1 will never get to see Jellybean; Samsung has decided to ditch us and leave us with Ice Cream Sandwich for eternity. Let's hope they have a better record with the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.

I should have just traded tablets with you- I was desperate to get Ice Cream Sandwich BACK- I did the factory reset, everything and could not get rid of Jellybean. I ended up trading my tab 2 10.1 into Best Buy for credit and "upgrading" to the Galaxy Note 10.1- Not a huge difference that I've seen aside from the S-Pen, but it runs my camera.

I've turned OFF automatic updates (at least I HOPE I have) to avoid this problem in the future. Frankly, it's BS that I can't roll back to what it was when I purchased it. Frustrating. I know I could have rooted and all that, but I didn't want to risk bricking a $350.00 tablet.

The Tab 2 was upgraded to Jelly Bean 4.1.1 which bugged the USB abilities. The Note Tab has ICS 4.0.4 which works perfectly with DSLR controller and everything else so far. It REALLY sucks that I can't upgrade without losing that functionality. TOTAL bummer, but hey- Samsung got an extra dollup of cash so I guess they're happy.

It is possible to roll it back, but it takes a bit of effort and isn't for the feint of heart. I think you're better off with the Galaxy Note and turning off the updates. Perhaps when Key Lime Pie (Android 5.0) becomes available you can investigate if that works with your DSLR software.

I still have the other 10.1 available so I'll continue to update that one and if an update comes out that works with my camera again, I'll update the new one. It's just disappointing as I don't have a ton of money lying around to buy new tablets with when the one I've got is perfectly good. Frustrating!!

Jennai, this I just discovered tonight! @_@

Can you come back if you find a workaround, or get it solved....

I share your disappointment with samsung. Not cool at all.

    ScandaLeX Wasn't Me Guide

It was solved when she purchased the Note 10.1.
As far as the OS (firmware) update, when it breaks functionality it's then up to the app developer to make the app functional again. That's not Samsungs' fault.
    This is not uncommon.

I have to disagree with you wholeheartedly. They nerfed the USB capabilities it had. That isn't app related, that is firmware related. COMPLETELY different scenario.

'Strewth, I'd be even more broke if I bought a new tablet everytime an update dropped app compatibility @_@ surely that's not a solution, certainly not sustainable long term.

Updates surely should expand present app usage, not subtract, especially when they are proprietary. I'll contact Samsung and Chainfire....will miss this as a monitor for sure...

Jenai is right it is nothing to do with dslr controller it will not read the camera on the usb which it used to I had the same problem when my Tab 2 10.1 p5110 changed to jb 4.1.1 I asked Samsung if I could refuse the update and they said no. after the update the camera is not recognised at all when pluged in so DSLR controller will not work I spoke many times and they gave me the usual runaround asking me if I have contacted the camera manufacturer (WTF) I said it was working ok on my P3110 7" version and worked after the JB update they completely misunderstood every thing I said to Samsung I said it needed a software patch but no they wanted me to bring the tab in and do a factory restore its almost that they are trained not to refer these problems back to Samsung engineers.
