So i've been able to connect my phone's bluetooth directly to my pc (built in bluetooth) but the only thing I can do is play music and transfer some files. I have a feeling that I can do way more than that, no? Is there such a program that allows me to go into my phone through my pc? like sending text messages, or even having my home screen straight on my pc via bluetooth? I know iphone has some stuff like that

There are few technologies involved, and different solutions for each.

I wouldn't bother with Bluetooth, it's probably least flexible for setting up solid and comprehensive link between PC and the phone.

For moving files in and out of the phone/pc, typing SMS using keyboard, and over all phone management from PC, I would definitely go with AirDroid. It's the most elegant looking UI, very functional, free and works over WIFI. You can connect it to any device as long as it has a browser, even ipad. Tho, there is not much you can do on ipad, but at least, it's possible. And it will work without WiFi, if you set the phone into tethering mode and connect your computer to its network.

For actual mirroring of the phone's screen, you will need hardware support. If you have Samsung PC, that's quite easy. If you don't have Samsung PC, then you could go with Miracast type dongle, AllShare Cast dongle, or 3rd party Docks with HDMI support, like KiDiGi, given your computer has the HDMI input.

I guess that would be it.
If I missed something, I'm sure other forum participants will fill up the gaps :)

    cheers

Samsung Kies is the official program for connecting your phone to the PC. Wireless or wired, and I think it also has a feature for sending text messages when the phone is connected wirelessly. Wifi is usually faster than bluetooth.

I like to use an SSH encrypted tunnel into the phone for wireless file management, use SSH Server app on the phone and WinSCP on the PC, and this is secure if set up properly. Low maintenance once you get it going. Also, you don't have to deal with the aforementioned Samsung software ;)

To mirror the device on the PC maybe you could make a VNC server on the phone, WITHIN the SSH tunnel... i'm curious to find a suitable and FREE app for this now for myself as well.
