    No problem....
Please leave a vote if you feel it warrants it. I've just topped up my wallet again for my Nursing Staff to empty. :)

I'm very new to Android and the situation this evening when everything just went dead shocked me. I just bought it last Sat and it's been working fine all along until that moment.
Many thanks for google that lead me to this forum. I thought I'll need a personal leave tomorrow to rush to the far far away Samsung Service Center.
I'm another one who just register here to say thank you, Beards.

Could you explain why and how to prevent this problem?

It's caused by a random bug in the Tab's system.
The only way to prevent this from happening again is to upgrade your Tab to Android 2.2.1
However, as most either don't like upgrading their phone or like using Samsung's Kies program, or don't have access to 2.2.1 and are weary of using and Odin to upgrade (that was a mouthful), the only option is to do the recovery I mention.

I was on my way to my work (had a flight) when all of a sudden my tab just went black! Got super worried and was already thinking of absenting on my work and just go straight to a Samsung mechanic. When i was searching for some troubleshooting stuff about my case, I FOUND THIS ONE!

    SO MAGIC! Thanks a lot!!!

Nwe, what if it happens on your phone over and over and over and over again??

Would appreciate your reply mister. :))

Ok so what if you've followed your procedure and still nothing. My tab doesn't even light up while on the charger now. No matter what, it's nothing more than a paperweight. I've only had it for about 40 days and have never even dropped it. Just rolled over in bed today to find it wouldn't turn on. I tried your method (Beards) and even a few different combinations of holding the power with the volume buttons. Still no dice. Am I maybe missing something or am I just hosed.

If the method I provided does not work and you simply can not get any life whatsoever from the Tab then all I can say is the problem would appear more terminal.

My only advise now would be to take the Tab to the nearest Samsung Support Centre.
I trust you know where yours is located?
If not you should be able to find it from the support pages of Samsung

That's very interesting. Can I ask what exactly it's doing when you do that? I just had that problem the other day and called T-Mobile. I actually thought the thing might have over heated. When it wouldn't turn on, I thru it in the drawer and when I pulled it out several hours later, it came on but in the mean time I had called T-Mo saying I may have to exchange it and told them why. Theynever suggested any other course of action. The question is now, should I take the replacement or not? I'd just as soon NOT have to re-do everything but I also don't want it if it has some problem.

Trust me it's a well known fault on the Tab with Android 2.2
The later update (if you can get it) gets around the problem.
Any new Tab will have 2.2, although soon we hope to see Gingerbread 2.3 being installed on new Tabs.
My fix is what was passed to me by my contact at Samsung.

It always amazes me how we can know all these little issues and fixes yet tech support is clueless. Thanks Beards! Of course, now I feel sorry for those Tab owners who don't read these boards.

    No problem Connie.
If you feel it has helped in any small way please feel free to leave a vote of thanks.
As explained in my 'sig details', all thank you votes are later converted into a charitable donation.

I have got to go out for a few hours but if you leave me some further info maybe I can help.

What exactly happens when you try to power on the Tab... do you get anything (even the lights on the selectors at the bottom of the screen) or is it simply dead as in nothing?

Next question ~ Can you select the 'Recovery Mode' ~ volume up + power + home and wait for around 2-3 minutes whilst it loads the recovery console?

I guess I did jinx myself Beards. Even after getting a replacement Tab, I've had it happen two or three times since. In each case however, I was able to get it to come back on after holding the power button down for several seconds and touching the screen at the same time. The last time took a little longer to move off of the splash screen but it did make it. So I guess now I ask, WHY doesn't Samsung/T-Mobile put out a fix for this? I assume it's software related. So what are we waiting for?

    Hi Connie,
There is a fix albeit still unofficial as in not direct from Samsung via Kies.
The unofficial fix can be found by updating the ROM file to a later version.
Later version ROM packages can be obtained from
As this update does not use Kies you will also need a third-party PC util by the name of Odin, again this is obtained at the samfirmware site.

The site gives full guidance on how to use Odin and carry out the upgrade using the later ROM file from the site.
You must make sure you pick the ROM file suited to where you bought the Tab ~ i.e. if in the UK you use a European ROM file.
Currently the latest ROM file for European Tab's is P1000XWJMK ##

When you go to the site you will have to join but it's a painless affair.

As to Samsung releasing a supported Kies update, this is coming when Gingerbread 'finally' gets released.... Don't ask me when but I understand fully your question, there is an issue and it is not being addressed correctly.

Why don't you leave a message on Samsung's Facebook page and see if you get any response. Even if not it may spark off a few more Facebook replies which then may trigger Samsung to come back to you. :)
