My eris screen is cracked and thankfully still working but still looking into a new phone. The Inc. was the logical choice being the predecessor to the eris and all but I feel like the Inc. is due for a price drop soon or HTC is going to drop a new keyboard-less Verizon device in November.

Basically, I don't want to jump the gun here. Do you think I'm guaranteed a price drop or a new phone selection come next month? Before end of 2010?

They're running a bogo promotion now with the Incredible. I don't think that the price will drop anytime soon, but I really have no idea. I just dont see it happening yet. I could be wrong though. I love my incredible, but the new HTC phone(s) are intriguing if you dont mind the 4.3" screen. No idea when they'll release though. Could be soon, could be a LONGGG time.

I've come to the conclusion that large screen size is not an issue for me anymore. My phone is always kept in my back pocket and when I sit down I always remove it and set it in front of me.

Now what's keeping me from just opening my wallet RIGHT NOW and just buying a Droid X is the stupid little camera hump keeping the phone from being nice and flush. That's why the Inc. is so appealing to me now. Plus SENSE is dope and way better than Blur and what ever Samsung is using.

I personally don't like the look of the X at all. I like the big screen size, but the phone didn't need to be nearly that big. Most people like the feel of the phone in their hands w/ that "hump" design though. Gotta admit though, the sense integration is pretty sweet in this phone. I use LauncherPro, but still, all the underlyning parts of sense make HTC phones head and heels above anything else, imo. Samsung, well, I wouldn't feel safe trusting them with a smartphone. Another thing idk why. I just wouldn't... not over HTC. But 4" is probably the perfect screen size I think.

Ok..so this is annoying me: The Inc is the successor of the Eris, not the predecessor.

As for your question, there are two ways to look at it. One is that you obviously need a new phone relatively soon, if not immediately. So why not run your Eris until death and see what is out then? There may be something better, there may not be. Option two is I WANT A NEW PHONE NOW!!! syndrome. Many of us here suffer from it. In that case, go for the dinc. I cannot predict what will come out or change price when, but I can tell you the following:
HTC will use a Snapdragon. The newer snapdragons are marginally faster (it is a phone...you may not notice the jump from 1.113 (OC DINC) to 1.3GHz). Heck, the jump from 1 to 1.113 is even barely noticeable...only on the things that lagged ever so slightly (not as bad as that Eris dialer). The newer snapdragons are also 45nm, so slightly more power efficient. The point is, this is not the speed jump of eris to dinc. The processor technology jump that you would get from waiting is minimal.

8GB internal storage may be made larger, it may not be. SD card slots work fine for most applications.

The Sceen is not getting better. It may get bigger, but probably not better. This is a personal decision and a gamble as to whether anything does change.

If you want an HTC keyboard, then gamble and wait.

After all that is taken into consideration, I say the DINC is at best the best choice and at worst a good but not optimal choice. In hindsight, I think I would take the DINC as I think the size is about perfect. Go hold one, find a friend with one, or just stand in front of the store version and play. See how bad lag is. Install a graphics intensive game trial or something. Then decide. In the interest of fairness, do the same for the X or Galaxy S.

i to am coming from an eris, mine is not broken but i wanted the dinc since it came out but didnt have an upgrade. i ordered it yesterday for a few reasons.

    1. HTC is releasing a slider and a dinc HD which is a evo pretty much. i dont like moving parts on my phone and 4.3 is just to big for my taste.

    2. the are switching to the LCD screens and have already begun to ship them, if you order one soon im sure you will be able to get the AMOLED screen but i did want to chance it.

    3. this seemed like the best phone to get me through till 4g comes out.

if you decide to get it, call up vzw and order the AMOLED dinc. sku i believe is adr6300vw2. hope this helps you.

Sorry for the predecessor/successor mess up. My bad.

What's this I'm hearing about an DInc. HD?

The time of the year is what's making me wait the most. It's the holiday season soon and the Droid/Eris came about around this time last year. I can't see Verizon just sticking to the DInc./DroidX/Fascinate for the biggest shopping time of the year. In the cell phone world (sadly) these phones are already old news.

I'm actually starting to lean towards the Fascinate but I hear bad things about the GPS and the thing is tied to Bing without root.

don't get a fascinate. their UI sucks; samsung was never good with phones. Sense is SO much better and easier on the eyes than samsungs. my friend just got one, and that thing is sooooooo ridiculously slow even with NO apps running! (btw, it has a BUILT IN TASK KILLER! lol i find that hilarious. it's not like in sense where you manage apps, it's actually a task killer that is from samsung. silly.)

either way, the fascinate is not worth it.

What is with this HTC love affair with Microsoft? Is it possible to just get a straight android device? I guess I can live with Bing if the next HTC phone is awesome.

I keep reading there is a 4.3" Inc-like device coming for VZW, but have yet to see it on any road-map and appears to not be in the Phone Arena one, which tends to be spot on.

Tmo IS getting a 4.3" Sense HD device (next month)- maybe folks messed up and assumed the product going to Tmo was for VZW?

I think this is what you are talking about. It's called the merge. HTC Merge specs (Phone Arena) Well...it has a 3.8 in. screen though.

Also...this just came out today on the merge. http://free-pc-guides.com/news/worldwide-htc-merge-preview-05107

I had a phone with a kickstand (HTC Imagio) and it was actually quite annoying with no real benefits in my opinion ~ personal preference I guess.

The phone in the pic has a front facing camera, so the kickstand would come in handy during video calls and just watching vid's in general, I think the evo has a stand as well, does the iphone 4?
