what is your hboot? if your hboot is 2.16 and you have s-on then unfortunately you will have to wait. the new hboot is not rootable just yet. but keep posted here on this forum and we will let you nknow as soon as there is a way to root it.

It would had they not updated you with s on. that should've updated your hboot to 2.16. S on is required to unroot fully. They may or may not have noticed or cared. either way with 2.16 and s on you are stuck, really sorry bud.

I am following instructions to a "T" but command always comes back cannot find specified path......I double click adb file see the command prompt for a second then pull up admin command prompt type path and nothing.....any ideas?

Ok, the instructions work perfectly, even if it seems they don't. First DO NOT COPY AND PASTE the text, type it in or it will fail. Second I formatted my SDCARD on my windows machine, fat32, not quick, and copied the PC36IMG.zip file over. <--- that simple step fixed everything I was having an issue with.

As for the comment above, type the commands, don't copy them and give the output of the failed command so that people here can help.

Thanks a ton, I was 10 minutes from giving up when it finally worked.

Did you make sure to change the directory from the command prompt to your desktop/adb_s-on folder? Once there, did you type adb devices to verify your phone had a good connection to your pc?

Thats what it wont let me do...it gives me the message when i try to change paths

Try going to cd \users\(your user name)\desktop then type dir and see if the adb_s-on folder is listed. We can fix it so that it can be used from anywhere on your pc but it is a bit more work to just be able to unroot.

One of the problems i am having is when i plug in my evo to computer I cannot tell it to mount and not charge because it is getting hung up at the startup screen....so when i look for it under "my computer" on my laptop it does not see it.....more and more i think this phone is toast.....

not to be the bearer of bad news. but had my evo(bought june 12 2010_replaced due to charger port. left it with sense 3.0 fully rooted and sent it in. they sent me a newer evo, with 2.3.3 already installled.

no because my volume buttons stopped working.....i am trying to control it remotely on my cpu but cant because i cant tell it i want to mount and not charge because it hangs up on start up screen

I would try and run the ruu first without turning s-on. If you can get to where the phone boots you can get s-on and back to stock again with adb

ruu says it cant connect to my phone. when i plug it in I can hear it connect by the sound it makes.... when the phone was operable it asked me what i wanted to do when i plugged it in (charge, mount, etc.). since it is hanging up on the white htc evo logo, which comes before the prompt) I cannot tell it what i want it to do when it is plugged in. It always prompted me after the white htc evo screen which i cannot get passed.

    Thanks for this thread.

When I unzipped the file and attempt to enter into it via CMD, I also received the 'system cannot find the specified path' message. Do I simply unzip all the elements into a folder called adb_s-on?

I did the above and then proceeded to connect my phone. When I typed in the command 'adb devices' my phone does not show up.

I connected the phone and selected the 'Disk drive mounting' option.

Any ideas as to what I can do to make the phone appear?

something is preventing the phone from communicating with the pc. do you have htc sync? if so try uninstalling it. does your pc normally recognize your phone? turn on usb debugging on on your phone as well.

Thanks for the tips. I've just turned on the USB Debugging mode and do not seem to have the HTC Sync application on my phone. Still not being recognized.
