So I'm getting a Motorola Droid on Friday I'm very excited to get it I can't wait. I've been using a My Touch 3G on T-Mobile and it's been nothing but a crap experience for me on an android device.

I'm hoping the Motorola Droid will change that for me. I used my brothers Droid for a few minutes (Not very long cause they can't keep their hands off of it!) And I do like it...a lot!

I know Droid Incredible is coming in July and supposedly a "Droid 2" as well but those are out of the question for me. I'll be getting a buy 1 get 1 free for myself and my mother as we both need new phones.

The Droid Incredible is already out, although after my experiences with both phones I prefer the Droid. Nothing you should know besides the phone is awesome. Have fun.

From what I have seen w/ the "Droid 2" I would stick with the moto droid. I found it interesting that on Droid-Life.com they posted a screen shot of a closeout list that had the Incredible on it. The main reason why I would not go with the droid 2 is due to the fact that it will be running MotoBlur. I am not a big fan of MotoBlur and from what we have seen in the past units running a secondary UI put on by the manufacture is pretty much last in getting updates.

I'm thinking of returning my Evo, jumping to Verizon and getting a Droid. I hate 3rd party UIs and think they need to die. Sense is causing so many problems for me, and I hate not having a keyboard.

Would it be stupid to get a Droid so late in the game? I was turned off to the Droid 2 with its Motoblur, and the X has no keyboard. The Droid looks like its perfect for me, just need to research on how well it runs Snesoid.

    Droid looks perfect so far.

Well, its the same (almost) as any other Android based device. I do reccomend getting a nice case for it, like the body glove, and a screen protector, like ZAGG. Its a nice investment and you want to protect it. If possible, get insurance.

You WILL drop the phone eventually, its inevitable.

Droid is old. If you need a keyboard, then it is the phone for you. Droid 2, looks nice, but the thing is you won't get the community like ours for it. because its running Blur, probably it will be 10x harder to make everything work for devs. If you don't mind the keyboard, I suggest you wait for the next phone without a different UI and buy it. The incredible just has too many problems, being made from a chinese company. They skimped out on way too much, but this is just my personal opinion

The way things are going it doesn't seem like many handset makers are putting out vanilla android devices. The droid seems to really be a dream for the community. You can tweak and mod it more so than pretty much any other Android phone from what I can tell. Oh and by the way HTC is Taiwanese.

One suggestion for you...If you can, wait just a little bit until the Droid X is released (in the next few weeks). If you don't mind a phone without a physical keyboard, this might be a good phone for you. Yes, it's going to have some sort of MotoBlur on it, but from what I've read it won't be as bad as previous version of this UI.

If you must get a phone with a physical keyboard then the Droid is indeed a great phone. I own one and have no desire to upgrade to one of these newer phones. But one thing I'd suggest you consider if you do get an original Droid - root the phone. Don't be scared by the process. If you have even just a little bit of computer knowledge and can read and follow directions it's a pretty simply procedure. I had my phone running a custom ROM and at twice the normal clock speed within 20 minutes of starting to root. If it's the warranty you're concerned about (and I do suggest you get a warranty), there is a simple step-by-step process for removing all traces of root and getting your phone back to stock should you need to send you phone back to Verizon.

Good luck with your search and welcome to the Droid family. ;)

    Things you should know:

    1. The keyboard sucks but will save you if you get in a force close loop.

    2. A screen protector is redundant.

    3. A case is redundant unless it looks really cool.

    4. The media dock is extraneous but not a complete waste of money because it comes with another Motorola cable, so don't feel badly if you bought a really cheap one.

    5. The battery area will get very hot if you play Parallel Kingdom with your GPS on while running Pandora and Helix.

    6. If you are in row of people and you look to the left and then the right, chances are you just saw two people that have a phone that does not work as well as yours. ;)

    That's all I got.

Totally correct. I was at Chuck E Cheese with my wife and kids on Saturday, pulled out my Droid to check some MLB scores and a few other customers noticed my phone. I ended up showing it off (being rooted when showing off also helps) and the three people who stayed around for a bit all walked away with some serious phone envy. One of them was an iPhone owner. :D

I own the droid, bought it on Nov. 6 (the release date) and wouldn't trade it for the world. As somebody already stated, the droid incredible is already out and if you didn't know, the droid X is being release on June 23rd. On paper both of those phones are superior, but they have setbacks such as those mentioned up above.

I think the best feature/asset of all is the droid community including both developers as well as users. The features and design of this phone makes it one that will still be mentioned for years to come when considering overall value. You can't go wrong with this phone.

Does the 30 fps issue extend to rooted phones with roms and 2.1? It's one of the main reasons I hate my Evo right now, along with the light leakage, lack of keyboard and htc Sense.

I haven't experienced any fps issues. I rooted after getting the OTA 2.1 update and I didn't see any of these issues that some were reporting when I was running the stock 2.1. And I certainly never experienced issues with fps after rooting and using a custom 2.1 ROM.

And for the record, because I'm rooted that means I'm now running Android 2.2. So I've got Adobe Flash 10.1. In addition to that, my Linpack and Quadrant scores with 2.2 are about 3 times faster than a Droid running stock 2.1.

No regrets dude, go for it !!!! I don't even remember how long ago it was when I drank the BBerry Kool-Aid for the first time and after using pretty much every one of them and becoming an addict there was no way in the world that I would even consider anything else......hahahahaha....how wrong I was, this Droid device is simply fantastic, fast, easy to personalize, affordable apps that do work and I don't have to constantly be aware of the available memory or reboots.....and the list goes on and on !

I don't believe in playing the waiting game as there's always something bigger, faster, better coming down the pipeline. BUT VZW is making the official announcemnet this week about their coming Moto devices. I think I'd at least wait for official word before jumping on the Droid 1.

Well I won't be getting it until Friday and yeah no physical qwerty is a turn off for me. No matter how bad the Droid's keyboard is, it is better for me to use that than a touch keyboard.

There's no confirmation that Droid 2 will have motoblur. Some rumors on several sites have said it may have vanilla 2.2 on it, and the blur is just for the testing phones right now. We'll see. There's nothing wrong with the original Droid though. If you root, you can overclock it and enjoy the speed!

why wait for the droid 2...moto blur totally out weighs the fact that it is rumored to have the OMAP 1.0 Ghz processor, also I do not like the keyboard. I got used to having the gold square off by its self. I have played with phones have a similiar keyboard and they do not feel right to me.

Info link and overall good site to deal with droid stuff.

UPDATED! Breaking: Droid 2 and Droid X will NOT Have 1.0GHz Snapdragon Processors | Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

Also, with the original droid costing less than $50, and thats if you go and get it at best buy. Just tell them that Sears has it for $49 and they will look it up and price match it. You can root the phone and OC it to 1 ghz and have no issues.

Never had those issues on any of my BB's. That said, there's no way I'd switch back. As for memory -- if you're an app hoarder you definitely need to keep an eye on internal memory available.

I thought so too when shopping for an Android device (coming from a BB with a keyboard). Now I only use the physical keyboard for games -- mainly due to Swype. YMMV, of course.

Huge mod community that exists now. Rooting that's available now. No need for what Droid2/DroidX offers over the Droid.

Different people have different/needs wants. I don't understand why people don't seem to get that concept on forum sites.
