Getting email on two apps?

Ok, so I got my droid 2 setup with my gmail account.
Then I set up my email app, simply called "email". But now, whenever I get an email, I get 2 notifications. One from the Gmail app, soon followed by one from the Email app.
This is quite aggravating, and I would like to use the Email app exclusively. How can I stop the Gmail app? I do not see a way to delete it, so I'm guessing google wants it as a staple app.

So into the phone settings, then account settings. go into the Google account and uncheck sync GMail. Unchecking this will stop the GMail app from syncing your emails and you will no longer get that notification but the stock email will still get your GMail emails. I have my phone setup this way.

I went to settings, account, and google account. But when I

I did a factory reset, and same thing.

The Gmail account is required for Android registration. It is your access to the Android world. If you uninstall Gmail (if at all possible) you may not be able to access the Play Store anymore or even end up with a mangled system on your device. You don't want that.

I wouldn't even try to uninstall Gmail, if I were you.

So you don't see options in the Google Account setting to sync calendar, sync contacts, sync gmail, etc.?
