It will support phones with higher resolutions. You can't just make a screen with a certain resolution go any higher.

That's just too hard to believe. I say that Gingerbread will come early next year perhaps?

only if the hardware supports it. ie: windows supports extremely high resolutions in software, but you can't set that old 15" 1024x768 LCD display to 1900x1080 just because windows is capable of it.

Gotcha. Guess we'll have to wait and see how it all works out... We still have Froyo to deal with first ;)

Dang man! Here I am thinking that the X is going to be the most awesome phone ever for a while and getting the brand new 2.2 and gonna kick butt...and now 3.0 is around the corner...I feel outdated already

It will still be the most awesome phone and once 3.0 comes along it is still going to be a top contender maybe not THE best im sure something else will be released but it will still be far from outdated

Once there are 4" phones with 1280 x 760 resolution, the only direction that the iPhone can go is bigger screen since Apple has already reached its limit with that resolution. 4"+ phones with that big of a resolution will make the iPhone pale in comparison since clarity will basically be equal.

So do we think that the X will be getting 3.0? Apparently we will be getting 2.2 in August...have that for only 2 months and then jump to Gingerbread? Or is the X going to be one of the "cheap, mass market phones" that is forced to stay at 2.2?

Well given that Froyo was already officially released, and it is going to take Motorola at least two months to get a "Motorola Approved" Froyo version ready (they have to add their "touch" to it), there is a zero chance we will see Motorola release Gingerbread for the X in August.

Best case scenerio is that it only takes them 2 months to tweak it. Honestly however it will probably take much longer than that. Everyone expects Moto to come out with something even better by year end, so there will be less effort being poured into the X at that time.

I think in reality, we'll see a new phone release towards the end of the year with Froyo still on it. They will take 1-2 months to get Gingerbread released on the new phone, and then they might turn their efforts to getting Gingerbread on the Droid X. So I'd say it might be the end of the year or the first quarter of next year.

    Just a guess however!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA yeah that is what I meant duh!! LOL

Well a lot of the time people upgrade there phone and more problems happen. My friend has the Droid Eris and he tried to upgrade it to the new 2.0 (I think that is what it is). Well it got all screwed up he told me once they put it on. So he went back to verizon and put the old 1.7 on it his phone again and all was fine. So I hope when I upgrade it does not happen the same way once I get the phone.

Yeah that is true, but I still think that if your going to allow users to update/upgrade there phones they should have it set up to not screw it up. Also if there is any bugs to fix them also.
