Root Gingerbread Roms (Kernal updated?)

So with the GB leak did we get a new kernel that will allow us to use more AOSP capabilities? I know before we had kind of patched AOSP parts that had to work with some of the blur functionalities especially since we were on a froyo kernel.

Will the new update get us anything special?

Did we get an actual GB kernel with the update?

I'm running the GB leak, I see improvements all over the place. I mean with the update will this give ROM developers more things to work with / tweak?
