For some reason my Gmail isn't getting pushed to my phone anymore - it's acting like it's polling or set to manual refresh. I didn't change any settings that I remember. The only thing that changed was an update to the Quick Settings app.

    Anyone else having problems?

No, I have two Gmail accounts set-up and haven't had any problems.

Are you using the Gmail app itself or have you configured HTC Mail?

I sometimes have noticed this type of behavior and doing a manual sync (look in the menu for the Gmail app) seems to clear it for the future.

Bundy, I had this exact same issue and posted my fix the other day. Not sure if this will work for you, but give it a shot. Change your Scene to a different one, give it a minute or two and see if Gmail starts working. Mine did, then when I changed it back to the one I was using it continued to work and has been fine since. I have no explanation for this, but after about 15 hours of trouble shooting, this accidental move solved my problem.

Can someone explain the differences/advantages between using the HTC mail program (exchange) for my Gmail account and the dedicated Gmail app on the phone.

    Thanks!

@ Topshelf - thanks for taking the time to post that, you are true to your name.

@ bryn987 - that was my problem - I came back to post that I figured it out when I saw your advice. Thanks.

I am not an expert yet, but from what I have read/experienced, the IMAP Idle that is used with the native gmail app (or the HTC one if setup using IMAP), is not true push email. But I think that the exchange/activesync is. Therefore, you will get your mail almost instantly with exchange, and just a bit more slowly with IMAP Idle.

I really hate the "conversation view" (threaded view) that google likes to use. Its harder for me to quickly see my new messages, I have to open up each thread. I know some people like this, but google should really give people a choice.

ANYWAYS, thats one reason to use HTC exchange. I believe both are push.
