Right, I'm fairly certain my GMail isn't using push to notify me of new emails arriving as I have just gone into GMail and hit the refresh button and it's fired out 3 new emails from throughout the day.

Do I need to manually set push notifications or should it happen automatically?

    Thanks.

I was just going to ask about this.

How often does it sync? I seem to have to go into gmail, then refresh the inbox to see if I have mail. Every so often though a mail comes through.

Have I missed a setting were the time interval for sync can be set?

There is no notion of time interval for the gmail app, it pushes the emails to the phone when sent, similar to how you'd get an sms.

Thanks for the quick reply. (As always!)

Ok, but, I think I'm out of my technical depth here.

What kind of time delay should I expect from when the email is sent to, to getting a notification on my phone?

Maybe it's the outgoing from work that has a delay. I'll try from home later on.

    Thanks guys.

Going on from my answer - that is from when it arrives in my online inbox to the phone, there's a slight delay. Delay from sent to delivered is all down to the network

Push has been hit and miss for me for the past week or so.

Seems better over the last 48 hours though.

Mail app showing them as they arrive in my email box.

I see, maybe i ought to log onto my gmail account on the pc & see when they come through there, then when they hit my phone from there on.

This may sound a dumb question, if i look at the inbox on my pc, emails will still get 'pushed' (right term?) through to my phone won't they?

Well, arrived on gmail on my pc already. Still no sign on phone.

It's nothing to do with me using wifi is it? I presume that makes no difference at all.
