I'm heading away to Greece on Wednesday and am paranoid about being charged.

What do I need to switch off before I go?

I'm on O2 unlimited data etc here, but know it doesnt apply abroad!

But I still need to use it as a phone! Surely there must be a way of going abroad without incurring loads of charges?

Make sure you switch off your Mobile Internet and check your overseas tariffs for any small print.

Do I need mobile internet on to get on the web at home (obviously if Wi-Fi is off)?

What wont work with each of these off?

Your only 2 options are mobile internet or wifi. With both off you can only use location based services that solely rely on gps.

It's worth keeping your wifi on because you won't get charged for it. Where as data usage I think is

Yeah that's right. But you won't be able to send or receive any mms because it's data.

This should give you all the specific info regarding tariffs

I have just returned from Greece, Italy, Serbia and Croatia. The phone defaulted to 'no data' when I switched it on in Greece. I could pick my times to enable data, but had to be very careful, as Serbia charge
