I managed to sell my Samsung Vibrant for $300 tonight on craigslist. It was mint condition. Got it the first day on July 15th and was all excited thinking 2.2 update would come by September.

So many Samsung Vibrants for sale on craigslist. The prices dropped from 400 to around 300 over the past month. There were some selling for 250. It's becoming obvious many people aren't that happy with the phone.

I'm a phone junkie and go through about 3-4 phones a year. I currently own a Bold 9780 and iphone 4. Have Tmobile and ATT service.

It was time to move on. Like many, I am highly disappointed in the lack of software support from Samsung. Too them forever to come out with the minor fix in JI6. Froyo is 3-4 months behind their competitors. I had the original G1 and that phone always got updates first (up to 1.6).

Sure I can root the phone (I have rooted it) but you shouldn't have to root the phone to get the lastest greatest software.

I will just use the $300 cash I got for the Vibrant and apply it towards another phone. I am so tempted to get the Nexus S off contract for $530. But it was 2004 when I last purchased a Samsung phone until 2010 when I purchased the Vibrant. I may never purchase another Samsung phone again after this. Should have listened to all of those Behold 2 owners about Samsung's lack of software updates.

Apple updates all their phones in a timely manner. "official Google phones" also get timely updates (See G1, G2, myTouch, and Verizon's Droid phones).

I know. I read up on a lot of angry Behold 2 owners and thought, Samsung will be "different this time".

But history repeats itself again. Samsung has got to realize when they are 3-4 months behind the competitor in releasing the lastest software, they aren't going to retain a lot of users.

Many of us get yearly upgrades (depending on how much you pay per month to T-mobile). So a 3-4 month delay is 1/3 of a cell phone's life for users such as myself.

Now I gotta decide whether to get the G2, Mytouch 4G, or wait. I am tempted to get the G2 since it's got almost a vanilla Android UI and I know HTC/Google will get it 2.3 update in a timely manner. Plus I like a physical keyboard.

Yes I know there are issues with the G2 and myTouch 4G also. I always do my research. But at least HTC updates their Android phones.

I have a Vibrant and I am very happy with it, but then again I kind of(I said kind of) don't mind waiting for Froyo.

It does however make me think about getting the Samsung Galaxy Tab...I mean does anyone even know if the tab will get honeycomb or even gingerbread?

you will never know for sure, until it happens, or doesn't. based on samsung's track record, i wouldn't count on it. at least, in anything that seems like a timely manner. see behold II customers and galaxy s customers. why would samsung suddenly change? especially since the galaxy s phones were such good sellers. until it hurts their bottom line, i don't see any reason why they would change their business practices. most likely, they'll come out with another tablet and you'll have to buy that.

I guess better late then never, besides they seem to be the besttablet I know of. And I don't really care for a apad or an epad...its not that I care about name brand but I do care about s/w and hardware.

if you decide not to get the nexus s just because it's a samsung phone, and you don't lilke how long it takes samsung to release firmware upates, then you may be making a mistake. sure, samsung built the nexus s, but it has stock 2.3 gingerbread OS, and all the future updates are going to be released by google. if you want a phone that will get all the newest updates quickly, then you shouldn't even think twice about the nexus s, cause it will be the first to get the next few updates for at least the next 12 months!

coming from a Motorola cliq XT and waiting months for only 2.1 that still doesn't even have it, this is not even close to as bad as i had it before! this phone is amazing with 2.1 (other then the ji6 battery issue) and will be great with 2.2. This waiting game is not that bad for me!

Well your losing features with the Nexus than with the Vibrant. If software updates were your biggest issue, you could have just rooted and installed a custom ROM.

How do you figure i'm losing features going to the nexus?

I'm gaining feature like FFC, cam flash, along with having gingerbread and won't have to worry about if i'll be updated to the latest software.

I'm not one of these people who needs the latest and greatest, but i bought my vibrant under the impression it had the latest software, adobe flash or would at least get it asap. Flash is a big deal to me for what I use my phone for and here I sit without it. Sure I could rom my phone etc etc, but I'd rather not have to mess with it especially after bricking my vibrant during the update.

True, you are getting a FFC but no SD slot, no hd recording,no gorilla glass. I never cared about a camwra flash. They don't work that great on phones. The Nexus IMO only has the advantage of the latest OS which I hope to get from the devs in a couple months. I already have froyo.

No SD slot, but it appears cloud is the direction google is eventually going. Me personally will never come close to using the 16 gigs the nexus s comes with so a non issue for me.

I'm not so sure about ns not having gorilla glass? Is there a statement regarding this anywhere?

Regarding the hd recording, seems like I was reading this will potentially be fixed through an update.

I used to not care about the camera flash as well, but i now go out often and take pictures for events we have. After being annoyed with carrying a camera in my pocket, I'll be quite happy to have a flash camera on my phone. I hope the quality is somewhat decent.

Out of the box without doing any mods, Vibrant is just a big ass piece of crap phone.

I love how some people tell me to mod my phone to get it to where is should be, yet criticize and laugh at how I4 users have to "mod" them with a case to stop dropping calls. I'm not referring to you VegasTouch, I'm just talking about some people in general.

A person shouldn't have to root and use a custom Rom just to get something that was promised or should be working in the first place on a $500 phone. The GPS problem on a stock Vibrant is ridiculous

the good news is, a person CAN root the vibrant and install a custom ROM and EVERYTHING will work awesome.

i was underwhelmed with my vibrant until i got rid of the t-mobile eclair load, now its very good = Axura ROM

if you aren't willing to root the device, it's probably best to move on though

This is exactly what I was getting at about this phone. Your overall statement though, nails it right on the head.

Even though I was rooted on my first Vibrant, there was still a little bit of anger in me that Samsung would go as far as to attack the I4 in their ads when the whole antenna thing was happening when they can't even get their shit together.

"Flash is a big deal to me for what I use my phone for and here I sit without it."

Not trying to be a smart ass here, but I have to ask....what do you use your phone for that flash is such a big deal?

I actually love the Vibrant and am happy I didnt drop $530 on the nexus s. I was very close to doing so until I realized all i would be upgrading for was the new OS. I can wait for that. I'm rooted, but no new rom. Just ADW with MiUI theme and its wonderful.

    for watching porn obv

no really, my phone is used in place of my computer often and for work i have to watch a lot video's on websites. Skyfire is ok, but it get's annoying not being able to pause, or if i get a phone call/text having to restart the vid.

and i'm fairly certain the nexus s is not just a vibrant with a ffc, flash, and gingerbread. i'm fairly certain there are other improvements

    here is some discussion: http://androidforums.com/nexus-s/239276-why-all-nexus-s-hate-2.html#post2030865

Its all over the internet if you search. Here is just one writeup but there are many others. Samsung Nexus S does NOT have Gorilla Glass | Android

As another poster said though, if your not willing to root and install the custom ROM's yourself, it is probably best to go with the Nexus or what other phone has Gingerbread. Its just for me, the Nexus is lacking some things on it that i already have on my Vibrant and didnt want to lose.

Im happy with what the Vibrant does with the ROM im running so ill just wait for the dual core phones to hit the stores.
