I have read through the threads here and I know this is theoretically possible, but I can't get it to work.

I have my Google apps email configured through the regular email app and set to push my email, but it doesn't actually push. I thought I'd try it with the GMail app, but I can't get it set up. When I try to configure it as a Google account, it says it "can't establish a reliable data connection to the server" even though my data signal is fine. This happens both on 3G and Wifi.

I had read to add the account as a Google account, using my full username@mydomain.com as the login and my password, so that's what I've been trying.

Any help? I can't find anything that works for me on here, and the stuff on Google is really outdated and just sends me to the mobile website.

I didn't have to do anything special. I used my Apps hosted domain email for the initial phone setup. I just added a new mailbox for the domain, opened up the gmail app on my phone, menu->Accounts->Add account, typed in user@example.com and the password, and that was it.

Did you add it as a Google account?

It's listed as a google account. When I first got the phone I signed in with my Apps domain account so it was actually the gmail.com account that was added later on.

On a DroidX, I'm having the same problem as the OP. The error msg I get is "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server."

Perhaps it matter if the hosted account it paid or not?

I'm using the free Apps service for my domain. The only thing I can think of is that I did my initial phone login with my hosted domain rather than adding it as a second account. So my Market purchases and google talk and everything are using the hosted domain rather than an @gmail.com address. Mind you using an Apps domain account as the primary has it's disadvantages. You need to have a secondary @gmail.com account added to be able to purchase apps in the Market. The license/activation is tied to your Apps domain account by Google Checkout in the Market needs an @gmail.com address to process the transaction! There's no picasa for Apps domains so there's no picasa/gallery sync. There's no Google MyMaps for Apps domains so if you use something like the MyTracks app you can't upload your maps with your Apps domain account. You can do all those things with the secondary @gmail.com account, but it's still annoying.
