Google Play/Market???

My HTC WildFire with android 2.2.1 have factor setting restored in order to get the Google play app work but when I run Google Play app com 4.0.27 it just crashes showing "Force Close" option and when I installed the old market app version 2.00 it overwrites the latest app and then finally the app can be opened but as soon as I try to install app from it the "Force Close" option again pops up. As I am a newbie, please help me solve this issue and tell if Google play/Google Market works on my phone plus the android version is upgradeable to 2.3 on this phone?
