I don't know how many of you use Google Talk (or just 'Talk' on the DI), but I have noticed something that is odd, and I don't know if it's just me, or if I have a setting issue. I had it loaded on my BB Storm prior to me switching to the DI.

When I don't have Talk opened, and my wife sends me a message, I get the notification sound and vibration, as well as an icon in the notification area and the LED flashes. That works as advertised.

However, when I have the conversation open, or have Talk opened, when she sends me a message, no notification sound or vibration happens, and only an icon in the notification area and LED display. If I set the phone down during a conversation, and she responds, I don't know she did unless I physically pick up the phone, unlock it and look at the notification area or see the LED flashing.

On the BB version of Google Talk, it notifies you whether you have it open or not. I haven't noticed if it does the same thing when the Messages are open and I get a SMS/MMS, or when I get an email if the Gmail app is open.

Is this an Android quirk, a Talk quirk, or a me quirk???

Judging by the page views (and lack of responses) either I must be the only one that is having this issue, or the only one using Google Talk! :D

Or, this is just the way it is with the Droid!

I am having the same issue. I am "guessing" this is the way it works, although that is a bit of a bummer.

Actually that happens to me. I dont know if u can change it to where you get notified while in the conversation. But I noticed when using Google talk in gmail or igoogle on a pc, it does the same as well, while in the conversation, I don't get notified.

Thanks for the responses. I agree it's a bummer. I can't figure out if it is a Talk thing or an Android thing. I hate to have to back out of the program each time I send a response so I can audibly hear when it comes back so I don't have to sit there and stare at the phone to see that it came back.

Oh well, we can't have everything, can we???

I don't see an option anywhere in the Menu for Talk that allows/disallows notification in-conversation.

While researching this issue in Google, I did read about the same thing happening in the PC version of this within GMail or iGoogle. I noticed that myself, but I am guessing that it doesn't notify you on the PC platform because typically you are looking at the screen while at the PC. That doesn't happen all the time with the phone. Although, Yahoo IM, AOL IM, and hell, even Facebook chat, notifies you audibly whenever you receive a message and it's in-conversation.

This makes me think it's a Talk thing or a piece that Google didn't put into any version of Talk. It is weird that it does notify you in-conversation on the BB, but nothing else.
