    Hello!

I've been having problems with Google Talk on my Desire for 2 days now - I can't start it up. Whenever I click the icon, it shows a black screen for about 1/10 of a second, then goes right back to the home screen. I tried force stopping the app, clearing the cache and the data and restarting my phone and checked to see if there was something wrong with my data connection, but nothing worked.

Is anybody having the same issue and how to fix it?
    Thanks!

Yes. I have exactly the same problem. I don't know how to fix it.

In Goolgle's Android forum there are a lot of posts linking gtalk with a problem whereby apps from the Android Market hang forever on "Starting Download". I have both problems.

ok, so here's an update: today, i noticed one of my apps wouldn't update (the 'starting download' issue) so i said i'd uninstall it and install it again. the thing is, when i removed the app, my phone wasn't on low space any more with about 16 MB left. in less than 10 seconds my phone did a full sync of the apps and that's when i realized i hadn't been getting twitter notification for a while. so i checked GTalk and it's not having any problem now and updates work fine.

i don't know if it has anything to do with this low space thing or if it's just a big coincidence, but if you're having the download issue, you can try going to Settings -> Manage Applications and force quit and delete cache for Market and Download Manager, then retry the updates. this seems to work for me. good luck!

You just beat me to it! I was just coming here to post more or less the same thing myself. Clearing up space on the phone fixed the gtalk problem for me, too.
